Yes Tooting are close to agreeing that a number of part timers perform Friday and Saturday only work. Not every duty but based on those who do not wish to work their rest day and have a long weekend every week. These are new part time jobs so no one is disadvantaged.

some part timers would, i think, just work thur/dfri/sat, having 4 free days a week off, some guys have other jobs, others would be free to look for additional employment, and its one day less childcare for some full timers.Some folk in my work are season tic holders, some play junior football, etc, and im sure swaps could also benefit pt or ft postmen here, for me, and me only, as a 22 year man, its the best option of a bad bunch.

So how would that work in medium to large offices? With over 50 walks in my office, we'd need a load of new part timers. Or does anyone really think that there would be an excess of full timers volunteering for o/t on a Saturday if they are off on a Friday. Would the 'new' part timers have to deliver 2 walks at least? Who would do IPS, packets, conveyance etc? Or would that too, be covered by over-time?
In fact the more I think about it, the less likely it looks.

The whole purpose of the survey is that not everyone wants the same. You can then taylor the duties within the office to fit peoples preferences. Why does everyone have to have the same type of attendance.

The Tooting office does not have every duty like that but about 8 to 10 duties .

Remember under any revison you have to be productive both under the roof and outside and traffic in the normal falls on Tuesday and picks up Weds , Thursday , Friday and Saturday. So extra part timers on a Saturday is possible providing you reduce your Tuesday hours within the office with things like fixed Tuesdays off etc.

thats exactly how im thinking, maybe a group of 60 want to work mon-thurs, and a group of 40 want every second long weekend off, and the rest want something different, would be great if the business(doms) gave us our wishes on these duties.

WE HAVE 1 DUTY DOING MON -THURS WITH P/T ON FRIDAY AND SAT
also have 4 duties doing mon-friday with sat only part timers
rest of office on rolling day off..................................for the moment desk top revision will change this soon . to what who knows

You can work it out amongst yourselves,it will be hard on the brain but if it's feasible then you can have it.
That's how we got our 4 day week,plenty of headaches and number crunching,but we got it.

If I were to be offered this role I would take it as I hate working 48 hours a week. Plus 3 lie in a week

This works (Mon-Thu f/t) as long as there is work in the office for the staff to do their 9 odd hr shift. Coming in at 5am and all the mail has been prepped by the new nights team you may be having in your DO unit if you're having a WSM. These are stripping the hours out of the office. We've been told that out of 200 staff only around 12-15 ft staff could be offered such a position as there is insufficient work for anymore to do and that's including prep of D2D.
