25 hour & doing overtime in duty time!
This has got to be the lowest of the low. Due to working longs and shorts, a 25 hour contract in my DO today was due in at 0930. Instead, at this time he was leaving with his own walk AND half of another one he was doing on overtime having started work before 0730am. Due to my escalating blood pressure I was incapable of speech.

But you have to ask the question - why, if the mail is there, is his start time 9.30?
Why not align the start time to the arrival of mail?
Why not align the start time to the arrival of mail?
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

sorry got to say from what you have posted i dont really see too much of a problem here, you said he is doing overtime, so its not as if he is coming in early and working for free, or is your opinion that no one should work overtime ever? at least the dom is willing to pay it and is not trying to insist on others absorbing this duty?

The new starters in our office (25 hour) all start off by doing the correct time then after a few days of their job not being thrown out, and them being told they are too slow because they cannot get completed on time (despite thier job not thrown outisland_boy wrote:sorry got to say from what you have posted i dont really see too much of a problem here, you said he is doing overtime, so its not as if he is coming in early and working for free, or is your opinion that no one should work overtime ever? at least the dom is willing to pay it and is not trying to insist on others absorbing this duty?

yeah thats wrong but the original poster stated that the person she had a problem with was coming in early to do overtime, not to work for freeronpetetrevchris wrote:The new starters in our office (25 hour) all start off by doing the correct time then after a few days of their job not being thrown out, and them being told they are too slow because they cannot get completed on time (despite thier job not thrown outisland_boy wrote:sorry got to say from what you have posted i dont really see too much of a problem here, you said he is doing overtime, so its not as if he is coming in early and working for free, or is your opinion that no one should work overtime ever? at least the dom is willing to pay it and is not trying to insist on others absorbing this duty?![]()

). Then they just give up and come in earlier and earlier, end up throwing the whole job out and the lino saves hours, genius in a devious unscrupulous scummy way.

Got told in our office, we're just a small sub btw, that we have to start later so our finishing time is the same as F/Tclashcityrocker wrote:But you have to ask the question - why, if the mail is there, is his start time 9.30?

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.
My BFF Clash
The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Re: 25 hour & doing overtime in duty time!
The way I see it if you need part timers in early to prep their own walks, it shows the doms that the resources aren't in place to cope with the workload. I think if part timers want to come in early its ok, just as long as they are paid for what they work. I know this might seem contentious but if an office runs on overtime, then the only way to cut it down is to increase the total hours in said office to match the workload. As we all know though royal mail would prefer the 25 hour lads to mop up the overtime so they can decrease their hours as and when (Hols, sick etc)

Re: 25 hour & doing overtime in duty time!
Right! For the thickos amongst you:
Mr Pink is a 25 hour postie and has his own walk, its a normal 'short' day for him. Start time 0930
Mrs Red is a 32 hour postie and has her own walk, she's on holiday.
Mrs Fire is a 32 hour postie and has her own walk, its a normal 'short' day for her. Start time 0800
Mrs Tooth is a 40 hour full time postie and has her own walk, its a normal 'short' day for her 0730
Ms Foot is a 40 hour full time postie and has her own walk, its a normal 'short' day for her 0730
I'm there playing my joker
On a normal day Mrs Red, Mrs Fire, Mrs Tooth, smelly and Ms Foot would throw off Mr Pink's walk
However, today, Mr Pink is at work before 0730 throwing off his own walk and Mrs Red's walk - half of which he is doing on OVERTIME with Ms Foot
At 0930 he's ready to go and leaves the office with his first bag and his overtime
Now, either I'm being really thick or OVERTIME is now called DO IT DURING YOUR DUTY TIME
The rep and the management turn a blind eye because 'the work is getting done'
I haven't got a problem with people doing whatever they want but doing overtime DURING YOUR DUTY is wrong? Isn't it?
BTW Postman I'm on a Royal Mail bike which I'm convinced is made of bloody concrete

What do you suggest, violence? we tell them, constantly, but fear of losing the job drives them!POSTMAN wrote:Why are you, your colleagues and your rep letting this go on?ronpetetrevchris wrote:The new starters in our office (25 hour) all start off by doing the correct time then after a few days of their job not being thrown out, and them being told they are too slow because they cannot get completed on time (despite thier job not thrown outisland_boy wrote:sorry got to say from what you have posted i dont really see too much of a problem here, you said he is doing overtime, so its not as if he is coming in early and working for free, or is your opinion that no one should work overtime ever? at least the dom is willing to pay it and is not trying to insist on others absorbing this duty?![]()

Ok its still not clear what your moaning about! He is coming in at 0730 getting paid 2 hours overtime, then doing his duty, if he then goes over his duty time, start the clock on overtime again, no problems there?smelly_cat_lady wrote:Right! For the thickos amongst you:

What I think you are maybe on about is ghost overtime, but because you are complaining he came in at 0730 it sort of hides the fact of the ghost overtime, is he working say 8 hours and getting said for the two full shifts ie his 5 hours and the duty he is coverings 6 hours, if thats the care then you have a legitimate complaint, basically is he getting paid for hours he is not working?

Re: 25 hour & doing overtime in duty time!
It'snot the fault of the staff it's the silly managers if the work gets done and they really dont care how it's done they will pay o/t or any thing as long as they dont have to get up or put thier coffee cup down.
