how to flag up threatening letter from dom

Post by wf »

Was just wondering how do i go about 'flagging up a threatening letter from dom'
The situation is,a few of us are trying to do the job properly.
We recieved a letter via are union rep saying
'i dont know why these 3people in question have started these actions'
and threatening serious conduct issues if it didnt stop.
The only thing we are doing dif is to stop using cars and take our break!!!
Surely this letter is going against the spirit of the agreeement?
Its the usual old story us doing it right and the rest not, which makes us look bad.
They keep talking about performance issues, but we arent any slower than the rest, only difference is we cut off when are hours are worked.

 So, it came through the Union Rep? Surprise. All you can do is get the DOM to put in writing to yourself what actions he is accusing you of taking. Secondly, and most importantly, if you are in Scotland, to the letter of the law, they cannot THREATEN you in writing-- they can say a course of action has been taken, but not threaten it. Good Luck to you.

the letter was addressed to rep .he got the three of us in room with lino and read it out.
we finally got the letter off him for proof and incase things get worse.
To be honest our rep and dom are very friendly, they drink together and have had some shady dealings in the past.
So i think we need to go above him in some way

Does it actually matter now if you decide to use the bike to deliver from for the whole of your delivery. I do about three quarters of my delivery this way, but wonder if they ever want to test my round whether they can force you to walk it all with the mail on your back? After all they are on about getting weight off our shoulders. I know my knee and back couldn't take it if i had to do it all without the use of my bike.

wf with regards to private cars on delivery two of the frequently asked questions were as follows:

Question: If I sign up to use my car, but decide on some occasions not to use it, will I be instructed to use it or have disciplinary action taken against me?

Answer: No. You have volunteered to use your car and not doing so incurs no sanction. However, if you are unreliable and give no notice of when you will or won't, or say you will and then don't, Royal Mail will prevent you from using your car and require you to use official acceleration instead by withdrawing its insurance from you.

Question: Once someone has signed up for the scheme, how much notice will they have to give should they wish to stop using their own car, except for the normal reasons, loss of licence - broken down etc?

Answer: There is no formal notice period as such. We only ask that you give as much notice as you can and be reliable. In other words treat your manager, as you would wish to be treated yourself. If you are unreliable, Royal Mail reserves the right to stop you using your private car, with immediate effect.

If an employee chooses not to use their own car, it is the manager's responsibility to provide appropriate delivery equipment and acceleration.

The problem for you and your muckers is when you all started using private cars on delivery did you all sign an undertaking (an employee declaration). If none of you did or if all of you refused to sign the undertaking - then you will not be authorised to use your car and would be subject to the conduct code should you then do so.

Firstly, may I say well done on doing the job properly :Applause , I think your dom is just trying to scare you into reverting back to your old ways. I'm not really in a position to give any advice on this, but being conduct coded for refusing to use your car must be wrong on so many levels. I'm sure there are many people on here in a position to help you, you aren't alone. Stay strong and good on you

yea, a couple of years ago i started doing this with a few others and was told that if more people started doing it we would be 'inciting unofficial industrial action'

we took this to the union (do & area rep) and were told that rm were right cos we'd always done it before!!!! :mfo

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

there have been some dealings going on in our distribution section for years(i won't go into details) which has just been stopped by our mail centre manager and in her letter to us she states"i understand that this practice may have been happening for some time but unfortunately 2 wrong do not make a right",so she stopped the practice's that she objected to.
my point is that just because you have been doing something for years and you then decide to stop doing it they can't use it against you if you are doing it the right way now.
my only safeguard would be to inform your delivery office moron, oops sorry, manager that you intend to do the job properly from now on and then stick to it.if he/she decides to take you down the conduct code you should immediately take out a grievance against the dom for b+h.it can work for you if you stick to your guns.
who the hell invests £2 billion into a servic and makes it worse?????????????
you really couldn't make it up!!!!!!!!!!!

Well done, top marks for doing the job right! The harassment is par for the course I'm afraid.
The fact is that 'doing the job right' is the only future for us now and also for RM. It is only because it causes short term hassle for managers that this harassment continues. When everyone does it right, works their time so that the duties have to be set fair and manageable, the harassment will fade away.
Private cars removed from deliveries will be the biggest step towards this and I am waiting patiently for it.

Well done and keep it up, you are not by yourselves, many others are doing this throughout the land and be assured that we are in the right, not the managers or those doing the job incorrectly.
