Geo route

My office is about to be geo routed.Can anyone give me info,is it true that its based on flat terrain,and do they take any notice of the comments you put on the walk logs,ie stairs ,long paths etc.Do they work it all out without physically looking at your walk ?

don't trust the Geo route! As with everything with royal mail it will be tweaked to suit them. it takes no account at all of the variables on each walk that can add up to a considerable few minutes==from steps leading uo to doors, to having to circumnavigate all sorts of obstacles.and no, they do not take any notice of your comments, they only pretend to.!

Geo route uses ordance survey maps to map the terrain. Things like stairs long paths etc are taken into account, but its a matter of how much time RML allow.


Each duty holder should sit down with the planner and do a Sid and Sarah walk review. whereby a little figure on the screen walks around the delivery route which gives you thr chance to make sure the info on the system is correct before the magic button is pressed and new delivery routes.

After that your in the hands of the walk speed, attendance call rate and time allowed for lifting the letterbox up and pushing the mail through.

There is no physical checking of your walk.

well. that's the theory, anyway.As for sitting down with Managment watching a littie figure doing your route, --all I know is on my walk I lose seconds on each doorway over half of my walk because I cannot walk from gate to gate, but have to walk round cars parked on the pavement, as the garages arew build onto the path, in total that is nearly 20 minutes onto my walk which Geo route will not regognise, nor of course the managers when you tell them. then after all that , when it's proved the initial planning was way off, it's tweaked and tweaked again!

They are allowing time for your redirections as well now, some walks have 3/4 redirections some has 20+ about time as well.

Its a load of bull do they allow for the wearing of your seat belts ,locking your van when you get out .Do they allow when u have to break away from delivery to deliver a special for 1pm ?,putting all your mail in back of van ?They say the pdas are quicker which is a load of bull, dont believe it if they say they do cause it doesnt .

What about terrain as 3/4 of my walk is on a hill and thus takes much longer than the flat parts.

Same as mine, I'm the farthest away from the office on hills yet have the second largest walk.

Geo-route is a steaming pile of shite. Our code area went through its Geo-route revision about two years ago and there are still duties that are 45 minutes shorter than other duties. Management know this, but they don't give a flying f**k.

I dunno why they can't send someone round each walk with one of those super accurate Garmin joggers GPS wrist watches. There's one that will record the speed you walk at, distance walked and time taken, something like that would be too simple for Royal Mail and they might find they will have to create walks because there's to many which are too big.

Just a thought - If you are having a 'difference of opinion' with a planner over areas of a proposed route (or think they are not going to take into account certain aspects), printing off a few Google Earth Street View pictures might help?

But it makes so much difference in time. By using my pedometer I can download and view my walking speed hour by hour and on the flat i am much faster in fact i go up to an aerobic walking speed

On the hills i ave just 100 detached calls per hour but this rises to 150-160 on the flat.
