Uniform and induction

Hi all,
I have my induction tommorrow and am wondering what it involved?
Also am wondering when i order my uniform where do i pick it up from or do they deliver it before you start your first shift?
Also is there parking at Greenford Mail Centre?

You wont get uniform for 12 weeks minimum, bar a storm proof nad high vis vest.

The induction is basically a day of listening to people stating the obvious, best advice is from the union rep, sign up there and then

Also, I take it you get paid for your induction day?

yes u get paid it is also very boring, i wore a pair of jeans when i didnt have my uniform

What I am trying to say is That i start my first shift next week. If i order my uniform on Wednesday, will i get it in time for next week?
Do they deliver it to your house as you have to order it over the phone?

Also has anyone had their induction day at Greenford Mail Centre-If so, do they have their own parking?

Realistically they should ask for uniform sizes on the induction day. May not though as they want to see if your going to stay in the job long enough before ordering it. Anything to save a penny. It will also be delivered to your workplace. As for car parking cant help on that.

Having just reached six months since my induction day i know how your feeling. I quite enjoyed the induction although the "statement of the obvious" does spring to mind. Its mainly RM corporate blah and a few videos about not leaving your bags unattended or the keys in the van as getting loads of mail nicked is a bit of a no no !! Pretty usless for what actually happens to you when you arrive in all honesty. What happens next will no doubt depend on your DO and its size. More than likely it will be sink or swim and nobody will tell you jack about any aspect of the job even down to the basics of filling in your recorded and Special Delivery cards on a duty. It might seem blindingly obvious but it was 3 months before I realised (or anyone told me) you had to put a sticker on a 739 card for a special or recorded delivery ( red card when customer is out). If you are not used to manual work then there is no hiding the fact you will find it very hard. The uniform will be the least of your worries. If you have walking boots use them but keep mithering your line manager and if they reckon you are going to hack it they will probably order for you. The simple reason you dont get any on day one I suppose is they are hardly going to waste it on someone who might come back in with half his letters and resign after half a round in the snow or heat for that matter (as per the bloke who started on the same day as me )
Having said all that if you are prepared to get stuck in and accept the fact the job is nothing like advertised and be in RM terms "flexible" then you might just get to enjoy it in a weird sort of way. Oh and dont expect to get get any holidays until there is a free wet week in Feburary that nobody wants. Make sure you tell them you have some booked before you start because they will honour them. Once you have started you are goosed and I really wish someone had told me that....Good luck....

no chance mate..you will get a high vis vest jacket if your lucky,,just wear what you are comfortable to work in..In an ideal world yes you would get some gear to make you look less of a newbie but that will be obvious anyway...Dont worry about it and ask anyone who will listen plenty of questions about what you should be doing no matter how ridiculous it might sound. Some people wont give you the time of day and some will be really helpful...Just like any new job,,,Thats life,,,

I started on a monday, ordered basic uniform on the tuesday and it was waiting for me when I started my shift on the thursday. Depends if they have your sizes in stock they reckon.

I started for Christmas rush and got my uniform in May. Apart from a storm coat and high viz vest.

Uniform is delivered to your office/Frame when it arrives and only deliveries or customer facing posties actually get a uniform.

Mail Centre:
2 Pair Trousers
6 Shirts. Polo or blue or a mixture of the two.
1 pair shoes or boots.
1 Fleece.

No stormproof for MC staff - so I'm informed by Uniform hotline.

None of which you are forced to wear but if you choose not to then Hi-Vis is mandatory. I hear they're mandatory in some Mail Centres anyway.
