I have recently been in receipt of some 'advice' verbally and in writing from my DOM regarding 'doorstepping' of packets and parcels. I agree with the policy of RM on this i.e. if no reply 739 docket, but it does not seem to be clear on the situation regarding porches. This is technically inside the property and therefore (if not to be signed for) the parcel has been delivered to the customer just like mail, but sheds and neighbours are not allowed? Is the policy all encompassing i.e. if the customer does not personally receive it, then no matter if the parcel can be dropped inside the porch, it must still be 739'd if nobody answers the door?
I am guessing that packets/parcels cannot be left anywhere at all under these guidelines, even if the front door is wide open and no answer can be found? Can anyone confirm?

No manager is going to tell you it's ok to leave a packet anywhere, but they're a bunch of two faced gits because they want you to. There's no money in redelivering packets or storing them as the E/O.

If there is a letterbox on the outside door of the porch I will leave a package in it. Other than that I generally return all packages to the DO except for plants and flowers - those I leave in a safe place and leave a signed docket telling people where to find it.

Porch is a greyish area the rest is a deffo no no.You've now been told different,and RMC will help you save your job!For me any porch, shed, wendy house, hutch, kennel, bucket or open window is fair game until told different

What I mean is, when there is no answer, I post a card, and put the packet back in my bag. That packet has to stay in my bag until I finish. When I pick my next bag, it will be 11Kg, plus any packets still in my bag. I could leave packets in the pouch box, but no one would pick it up, and I'm certainly not going to walk around pouch boxes after my walk.
I could of course see the DOM, and let him 'manage' the problem, but I'd just prefer to have a good excuse not to take them in the first place.

Our gaffers policy on packets is to leave them in the office and make sure your absorbsion is done before thinking about delivering packets, as thats what he told our drivers to do last week. Did anyone else have thier gaffers suggest the same thing?? Looks like absorbsion takes priority over your own duty in our office. I wonder if joe public would be reasonable and understanding about royal mails new policy eh??

Pouch them off,either put 24 or 48hrs on the card and tell the dom/driver they are in there,simples.

He's already onto it mate. The driver had told him straight away. The driver refused to absorb and told him he was doing his duty instead therefore had no time to absorb, so the gaffer had to take it out lol.
