What’s the procedure when we come across each others picket lines when we strike on different days?
I will be driving to mail centre who are on strike Thur to collect mail for our delivery office who don’t strike until Sat.
Are we to cross the line or come back with no mail and get suspended for not doing our jobs.
I for one don’t want to cross anyone’s line but cant afford to be suspended with no payee until they court martial me.
From what my Area Union rep told me, as I am Delivery I will be on strike Saturday, so if a driver arrives with the mail then we are to let him through without asking him not to as they will have been on strike on Wed 25th Juy from 19.00 until 19.00 Thurs 26th July. I have however just spoken with CWU and a LTB has been sent out today and it states that we CAN ask drivers not to cross picket line. They will not be suspended as is normal practice, but will lose an extra day's pay.
We have to be adult about this strike. If we want to keep it legal we have to accept that some of us are out when others are in. I am a dsitribution driver, I will have ot cross picket lines and I hope that we are all mature enought to accept that. I will not be standing behind my front door calling the delivery postman a scab when I am on strike and he isn't.
This campaign of strikes in different functions is different and ingenious and if it works it should bring an end to Leighton and Crozier quicker than we thought. The only thing that can f:'k it up is us. We need to be prrofessional on the picket lines and accept that to cause maximum disruption we want the work to contniue flowing and biulding up in offices wherever it lands.

The whole point of this tatic is to annoy RM whilst keeping it under control we have to seak advice from above on individual cases. but it is more important that we communicate to our own membership what is going on and why we are doing certain actions.

my manager last week asked if ive heard any news on strike days gave him the latest info and it was with great delight his face went white and said that will f**k the business up for 2 whole weeks
My distribution manager informs us that RM have no fecking idea how to handle this one. They are hoping that we will mess it up ourselves, that is why it is so important that Union reps do the job properly. Leave your members with no doubt whatsoever when they are off and when they return, it doesn't matter about what other functions are doing as long as your members are clear. Confusion is going to be the downfall, we have to work hard to show that our campaign is not one of "a day here or a day there" but a carefully planned strategic campaign. If they can see this they will know that we are serious about a meaningful approach and they will understand....now go....go and do the business....lol...oh alright later then.

We do indeed need to be adult,no stupid antics,unofficial action is the very last thing we want,at our office RM managers are going out of their way to goad us in to unofficial action by having loads of casuals in and no O/T for the staff,pulling drivers off collections to finish off walks that have cut off and so on.
I've heard from various people that if managers have been sorting the mail in the mail centres, that delivery staff have the right to refuse to deliver it. Is this true, or is it a rule from a by-gone era ?

I know what you mean. In days gone by, we would 'black' scab mail, and when someone was asked to touch it and refused, they would be suspended. Then we would either all walk out with the suspended person or carry on working and have a collection to make up the time he had been stopped. I don't think the CWU would want that just now.

It's blacklisted mail,so technically we should of refused to touch it,also with managers driving the shuttles it's a double wammy.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.
