You have peeps in your office. Some have a possible DDA condition. Management are stating that, "if they're not fit enough to work in this office then we may have to find them alternative work elsewhere at a nearby unit and or finish them on ill health.
My question is, if members come under the DDA can we insists that these individuals are kept at this unit OR are (for once) management right in what they say?

Re: Just some advice for a rep re: DDA
I always get the feeling that management are trying to intimidate the individual into maybe thinking twice before it goes any further. "Carry on pushing this matey and we'll make it as awkward as possible for you. Stay here and be local to where you live but do a walk with your ankle/ knee/ bad back etc etc or you're off to the nearest CDO some xx miles away." Or am I being cynical here?stokes11eg wrote:It is my understanding they can 'offer' you a move to another office, which in most cases would be a bit pointless as the work in most other places would be the same as you'd be doing now anyway. I've always felt that in making this offer, they are trying to show that they have complied with the 'should be offered alternative employment' requierment as laid down under the DDA act.

You cannot insist that they be kept at their own office,if you are a DO then the only options would be indoor duties at their own office (if there are any vacancies) or indoor duties at another DO or working at your Mail Centre ,which if it's same as my MC ,It would be on nights. That would be reasonible ajustments as far as management is concerned.

Thanks for this info. But when would then the "or finish them on ill health" come into it? When no work can be found at a nearby unit or if the individual turned down the offer of working at a different unit I'm guessing?roger wrote:dave7634 wrote:You have peeps in your office. What's classed as a reasonable adjustment?
Take a case I'm currently working on(which is 2 months away from a tribunal)my colleague works in his local office it is approx 10 mins walking from his house,he was told that he couldn't have an indoor duty as there was none(there was they just wanted to make office savings) and got the option of you can either bog off to a mailcentre which is even farther away( now they have shut the nearest one
The facts are most employers(it's most certainly isn't just Royal Fail but a general ignorance
Managers are generally ignorant or can't be arsed to offer adjustments as they think it will cost them money to help the disabled worker stay in a job and therefor offer the ill health option, even though there are schemes like Access to Work that pays for equipment etc.
Royal Mail managers.....about as popular as a t.urd in a swimming pool!
The DDA/Equality Act demands action,NOT words......adjustments NOT Occupational Health referrals.Case No:2505901/09
Royal Mail is an Equal Opportunities Employer..It discriminates against everybody.
