One pair of shorts every 3 years

So I phoned up a few weeks ago to order my first and what are now my only pair of Royal Mail shorts. I phoned up again today hoping to order a second pair so that I had a clean pair for every couple of days. To my amazement and shock, the ordering office told me I was only allowed only one pair of shorts every 3 years!!! Now I know they cant just hand out gear willy nillly, but one pair? Every 3 years?

So are they saying that wearing your own shorts is the way to go? Or that you must wear the same crotch sweat drenched shorts every single day? Or you will have to alternate between trousers and a pair of shorts?

I mean I will be wearing my own shorts and I doubt anybody will care, but would they really rather me wearing odd shorts than simply allowing me a second pair so I have a fresh crotch?

Maybe it's just me, but really?

Don't think that is correct! I've been here 2 years and have 2 pairs! See your DOM, get him to order them.

That's crazy.

I need new boots which I will be phoning up for later this week as the whole sole is falling off. If they tell me NO then I'll be working in trainers, or boots without a sole on one foot.

No, I've had them since I started! Maybe I was just lucky. I ordered a pair of Doc Mart boots, last Nov,but they cut my Achilles up and they nearly crippled me, one word to my DOM and he ordered me a pair of Magnums! Maybe he isn't such a little s**t we all think him to be!

It's true, one pair every 3 years. Obviously you just get your manager to phone up and order them.

Lovely image... wearing the same pair of shorts for 6 days (cos you only do one wash a week as it's uneconomical if you do 2 small washes), in hot, humid weather, working hard, getting sweaty...

Not as bad if you're a male I think. Incredibly bad if you're female given the "ladies problems" we can get.

Royal Mail only really seem to pay lip service to pretending to be a good and caring employer IMO. They don't really care about H&S either. They just use it as a way to sack people if/when they have an AOD because they're pushing people too hard to finish within unrealistic duty times.

I intend to be gone within a month (hopefully) and I'm going to tell them all this before I go. It'll fall on deaf ears but I'll feel better for finally telling them without the risk of losing my job.

Yes that’s an increasingly common problem for us posties brought about excessive workloads.

My shorts is so old and is very loose around the waist, so I ask a line manager to order 2 new pairs and it came with in 4 days but he is only allowed to order one. I am not doing the laundry twice a week when I am alone at the moment.

Might as well just not wear any shorts at all then! Get a loin cloth...

Then again, not like there's gonna be much to see is there?!
