1/6th d2d per day - is it fact or fiction ??

I not sure that there are any hard and fast rules. What we have seen are guidelines.

It is suggested that we do at least 1/6th a day. Therefore, people can do more if they choose to. In our office a number of us have decided to do 1/5 a day, Monday to Friday, leaving Saturday clear. If/when we have to work 8 hours on a Saturday then we might reconsider.

Sure we’ve got the usual collection of zombies who will continue to come in early to throw them all off on a Monday or a Tuesday oblivious to the fact that these guidelines have been put in place to help them, but if they want to struggle round with 4 (soon to be 5) D2D’s for each address all in one go and prep them for free then who are we to stop them?

They will be the ones having to cover the lapsed duties because the rest of us won’t have finished in time to take on additional work. LOL.

I agree with all of this.
RM's position is really you can do them however you want (1/6th, 1/5th whatever) as long as it doesnt compromise the workplan.

I had a problem like this in my DO.

They started saying that D2D's were going to be mon-fri, 1/5th per day. Saturday was being made a non-d2d day incase of sickness/bank holiday.

I wasn't happy with this. Everything I had read was 1/6th per day! Turns out the rep and the DOM had agreed this. Rep decided not to ask of of the workforce.

I had concerns that if it did go mon-fri then we would get stung further down the line, especially when the 1in4 saturdays (ha!) come around, that we would get the usual story of 'No d2d's to do on Saturdays, traffic is down, people are off, you will have to lapse!'

So I spoke to both the DOM and the Rep and am now doing 1/6th per day

The 1/6th as I understand it is for each walk and is a minimum acceptable to cover sickness, absence etc. However, the duty holder can manage the D2Ds as they see fit as long as the D2Ds are completed on or before Saturday of the week in question.

Now on to JCLs post - this could get a bit confusing.

The duty holder can if he wish do 1/6 of his duty each of the 5 days he works it.

The lapsed walk unless its lapsed every day should have as I read it, only 1/6th of it done on the Tuesday. This could mean 1/6th of each posties section, a fair but administratively difficult way to organise it, or 1/6th of the duty that rolls on each week so that there is a fair distribution (as much as there can be) over a 6 week period.

If it is only lapsed 1 or 2 days and all the D2Ds are taken then that is unfair on the lapsing posties but an excellent deal for the duty holder.

If the duty holder takes 1/5th of his D2Ds on the other days and all of the D2Ds on the lapsed section every week then he is taking more than his fair share over the week and it does not address the weight on the shoulder problem when we go to 5 or 6 D2Ds IMHO. However it is managed a fair balance is 1/6th of all the call points they cover over the whole week, not 1/5th of their own - plus all of the D2Ds on the lapsed section.

If the walk is lapsed every day then 1/6th of it per day is the best way to go but the original duty should also have 1/6th per day as well. If the postie does the same lapsed section all the time then they should be allowed to manage it how they wish over the 6 days.

Forget about lapsing, forget about what the duty holder wants to do, the agreement is that D2D is live mail which should be done over 6 days. This will reduce the weight on shoulders. If on a thursday or friday it is a very busy day the D2D is counted into that days traffic figures , so if you go over or need to cut off, then your Dim or Lino has no arguement.
Say for example you are of sick or on long weekend would it be right if you come back in to you frame and the guy covering didn't take out mondays because he was going to do them later in the week.
Its "live mail" now, and so should be treated as such, take out your 1/6th a day, simple as that.
