Yesterday I gave a hand back, ie. Couldn't complete my walk on time so I had to leave part of it....
Today I came into work n my union rep told me that the Dom, not my line manager, had sent him a letter regarding my performance n two other colleagues who had also given handbacks... Not once was my performance questioned during Monday until I made the line manager aware I was possibly gonna give a hand back..
Monday bein quite heavy I didn't leave the office until around 10:10am having been in from 6am, walked round to the bus stop 15 mins, waited on bus then got off at my delivery at approx 10:45am, I then took a part break of 20mins then commenced delivery at 11:05am, done everything by the book then phoned the manager telling him what was left etc....
This morning Tuesday I got a letter that made me feel threatened that I was forced to work over my time today...
My point to u is this though... The majority of guys were over their time on Monday even though they still used their cars however bcos they were able to complete, even though over their time, their performance was not mentioned, however the guys with family commitments who could not complete r goin to take a lot of hassel every time they r struggling with the ever increasing work load n bein held to ransom for not usin their own vehicles, ps. I'm also a reserve so I don't know frames as well as regular men, but I do honestly put in a decent shift n don't smoke or drink tea etc

Re: This u must read, cos it's cumin to u next
I would love someone to come on and answer this properly
im having this problem now for a long time and strangely enough its just got a whole lot worse
linemanger thinks im going slow(im a reserve too and getting out 10 mins after guys who are sittting on walks)
so apparently this is a performance issue.
the dom is hassling me too and the linemanager wont answer me when i question him
instead he just goes in to dom and blackens my name even more than he has done before.
then dom sends another threatening letter.
what am i to do,stay out to 4 or 5 o clock to keep my job and them off my back.
i dont want to use my car
i want to take my break.
We need answers gone this is just getting beyond a joke

It certainly sounds quite harsh to be honest.
As long as you informed your line manager before you went out you should be in the clear. Are you a CWU member?
The only thing I can think of to cover your back more is perhaps you should take your break in the office before you go out and keep a photocopy of your bus ticket to prove times etc.
Good luck with this I guess your right and a lot more of this thing will be going on now the new agreement will give some managers a power hungry complex.
PS. Just one tip, writing your posts in text talk makes them less clear and harder to read quickly.
Rows of houses all bearing down on me........I can feel their blue hands touching me.......All these things in all positions.........All these things will one day take control..........

I would be going to see the DOM and asking if all the people that don't take breaks have received a letter for breaking h&s standards
and whether all those using their cars have ALL the relevant paperwork and that the checks have been completed and documented on their vehicles.
I too would take your break before you leave the office
also ask him to explain which part of your performance is in his opinion below par and how he going to support you to recitfy it
but then i'm awkward like that
put the ball back in their court, don't be intimidated
If they say your performance is not up to scratch they have to explain why and where
and whether all those using their cars have ALL the relevant paperwork and that the checks have been completed and documented on their vehicles.

i am well versed in what i need to do ie. 3.1 and 3.2 of the agreement and try my best at all times to do my job as i am expected, the manager threatened me today saying i am goin to record everytime u go to the toilet or stop working in any way... i used to fly out in my car rushing round my walk to get finished early n get a bit of overtime on another walk also, but then i realised after year after year cut, that these type of actions are costing guys jobs, ie. affecting me too so i took the view that i should do my job properly now to stop taking short cuts thru gardens and chucking letters into halklways etc to save time which increases my chance of making mistakes which could lead to conduct issues.... i value my job unlikie others but they will learn....feduppostie wrote:I would be going to see the DOM and asking if all the people that don't take breaks have received a letter for breaking h&s standards

problem is managers use dirty tricks to try n get u in trouble, such as saying that u r under performing, but being a reserve its hard if not imposible to sort any where close to a regular posties speed

It happens often in our office.
I think you have the key points, Overtime was required on many walks and only those that cut off were approached about performance.
It seems clear that you need these facts put into writing with specific problems with that concern you but don't apply to others who weren't disciplined to be stated.
Even if the DOM backs down then put in a formal request for for the statement otherwise give notice that you will submit a bullying and harassment complaint.
Make sure you do all this with a union rep present and takes detailed notes at each meeting to back up your claims.
Of course, this could lead to serious harassment and such close scrutiny that you can't fail to make some tiny mistake and you loose your job. Unlikely to happen but if you are a fighter then it could make your whole office much happier.

Re: This u must read, cos it's cumin to u next
Same thing happened at our office on Monday. Many people went over by 1hr+ and all was o.k. if you claimed ext del, but, say you are culling that 1hr+ and it's a performance issue. I've never been able to grasp this concept in the 15yrs i've worked for the business. Surely going past your time and culling should both be performance issues then, but apparently not!
Reason for this is i think that management can hide payments for ext del from annual office budget figures, but when you cull, and they have to pay overtime to get it covered they can't, so it has to be disclosed on budget sheet, reflecting badly on office, and ultimately on manager.
That is why they try to bully, harrass, victimise, discriminate, and belittle individuals citing the performance issue card when you wont comply by going past your time.
With D2D now supposed to be incorporated into deliveries now, and extra time allowance for this, but not, they ultimately are on a losing battle trying to use this card especially when you have 4+ D2Ds to prep. Until they adhere to the full agreement as it's supposed to be with regards to walks then they better be prepared for more and more culling on your shorter working days as there simply just isn't the time, pure and simple.
