Been on 25 hours for four years now, I know the IPS perfect in our office, I can sort as good as anyone in there I can do PHG duties and driving, but alas no more hours on the table. I usually do 40 hours plus and am very rarely off sick. The point I'm trying to make is that despite your best efforts, you are no better thought of and I have never known anyone in my office have their hours upped despite full timers leaving. Don't mean to put you on a downer, but in my experience it won't happen. Good luck anyways

Seriously,you are caught between the rock & the hard place.

If all part timers stopped doing overtime then RM would be forced to acknowledge that the 20-25hr contract aren`t really working & would HAVE to make people up.

Too many people cant or wont stop doing o/t at the minute so the amount of folk being given more hours is going to be minimal.

Its a vicious circle because RM know most can't do without it. You've pretty much hit the nail on the head but if most PTs are like me, then they won't give up the OT because they know as soon as the wsm's kick in they'll be able to slash a few hours there.

Go for a full time walk nobody else wants, and you'll no longer be part time.
That's what I did.

Been part time for 11 years and still no prospect of being full time any time soon.

Been on a 25 hour part time contract for 6 years - can cover loads of duties been really flexable in this period, covered full time duties for five years (No Full time duties offered in the DO over this time) - carrots dangled of extra contracted hours to keep me sweet - (Pie in the sky). I eventually got sick of been messed about and decided to work my contracted hours only - (Got my finances in order before I did it so not to cut my nose off to spite my face) I do not do any overtime anymore (life is much better) the impact was that the lino had to find some other part timer to pick up the hours I dropped. I told them if they wanted me to work extra it would involve giving me extra contracted hours. Once I decided to work my contracted hours they had to fit in with me not me fit in with them. From this I now work a three day week covering my 25 hours and picked up an outside job which is looking like it will lead on to a full time job. In short use you contract to set your agenda not theirs!

Its not easy being part time when really your doing all of the heavy work of a full timer for far less money.

Trouble with working your straight hours is that in our place if any of our partimers work their time and leave mail behind it just gets offered to the full timers who have the easier walks and finish one and half hours early each day.

Sorry but ive not seen a duty which has become part time made back up to full time in 10 years.

im on a 6 hour contract, i asked what the chances of becoming full time, "no chance" i was told. all we can guarantee is your contract hours per week. 6 hours be better off on the dole

Mate, you have your head screwed on good and proper

I suspect the majority of PTers are not able/willing to make the financial sacrifices you had to, to facilitate being able to just work contracted hours.
Must save RM an absolute bloody fortune having PT work FT hours, then only pay them PT money when on holiday or sick.
