Training Allowance

Post by trouble »

Hello could someone with a bit of knowledge on the agreements please let me know are there any agreements in place about training allowances.

We have been informed by other offices working within RM who are in receipt of it, that if we have to train someone up on a duty that we are entittled to a training allowance of £6 a day.(£30 a week)
After approaching the manager we were told that she had never heard of it before and she tried to fob us off.
We kept on about it and now she has informed us that it is only available if we carry out a full weeks training.

If we want this money then we have to prove that we are entittled to it as she knows nothing about it and is not prepared to chase it up for us.

THANKING YOU IN ADVANCE FOR ANY INFORMATION

Not just £30 a week, but your trainee delivers nearly half your mail for you so you finish up to two hours early, and it's off to the pub to spend the £30. :nana :nana :nana :nana :nana

Hi Trouble,

Download the agreement from here : http://www.royalmailchat.co.uk/communit ... 36&t=17472" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

You must have workplace coaches,1 or 2 per office. There is an allowance that is there permenantly,non-pensionable.However DOMs do not utilise them properly. If your WSM revision kicks in,your rep in every resource meeting needs to reiterate the utilisation of coaches.

No it is not the work time coach that I am on about, apparently it is different and is for anyone who has to train someone up on any duty.

Also the work time coach has only been in the business for 11 months and does not know the different duties.

If you have a coach then he is to be utilised. There are no other allowances nationally agreed.Hence the workplace coaching role.If he is not quailified,(and I found the application itself quite complex), then you need to find a suitable candidate. The trouble is your current coach is obviously not "suitable".

Can you get your rep to mention this as a MUST in the next resource meeting?

 Yip--prior to workplace coaches, an experienced member of staff would usually take a new start out. he would be trained from day one on his own walk, which all new part timers were given from day one. there was an allowance for this, but think it stopped with workplace coachines.

 A number of years ago, new starts actually went to their nearest 'head office' and received a full weeks theoretical training on the job. They would do a couple of days there, then a day out at the office they were going to work in, then back to head office. They were actually paid during this training period. This stopped long berfore before the WPC were introduced. As for a weeks training now, forget it! Poor souls are just flung in!

It's the job of the workplace coach to train any new recruits. His/Hers and no one elses. If you're asked to train someone, you refuse and tell the DOM it's one of the workplace coaches responsiblities. If the workplace coach isn't experienced enough to do that, he shouldn't be in the position. And how can someone who's only been in the business for 11months get the position of workplace coach? This allowance and position started over three years ago. Every office was told to have one. So if he's the workplace coach, someone must have had the position before him. Maybe he got the position because no one else wanted it? Btw i'm the workplace coach. You get £31 and odds a week for nothing. The management never utilise you. I think they're meant to but most offices i know the workplace coaches do nothing but their normal daily shift.

What if, like my office, you do not have a WPC? Also what if you have more than one new starter at the same time? WPC can't train four people at once.

you do your job properly as normal
if having that new start allows you ti finish earlier then so be it
if you cant finish on time then you cut
what happens inbetween is really down to the DIMs

It's not finishing on time which worries me. If I am asked to train someone and they then go on to make mistakes I can be blaimed for not training them properly, but I have never been told how to train them properly or ever been trained properly myself. Can I refuse to train someone if asked?

yes
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.
