Yes....ask them when you get the job, will you JUST be on the machines, or will you be expected to throw walks in, seg mail, and cover walks too after a night shift ???

This is walk sequencing from a personal point of view. I wrote this in reply to a couple of potential operators who asked for info.

We've had Solystic CSS machines for over 3 years.We started with 2 and just over a year ago they were removed and 3 new ones installed.We have a core group of 8 operators working 4 nights a week on 10 hour shifts 23:00 - 09:00 .We get a long weekend off,Thursday morning till Tuesday night every 4 weeks.Sunday and Monday nights there are 5 operators on and the rest of the week 6.
Thats the plus side.
The first thing I'll say is it's the hardest I've worked in my 22 years on Royal Mail but it's still better than delivery these days.As we are 50 miles from the mail centre arrivals are very erratic and when the work arrives it is all mixed and has to be segged into 27 different batches.
When we started we were sequencing around 30,000 items a night.Now we average around around 4 million in 4 weeks as they have introduced more and more sub offices into the equation.
The 2nd wave is a push because the mail arrivals bear no resemblance to the actual workplan and the batches are a lot smaller which are actually harder to run.
The optimum size for batches is 5000.On our 1st wave we regularly run 8,000.Also there's about 90 minutes computer work a night inputting figures and if your office is anything like mine it will be left to the same couple of people.
So the moneys pretty good,the time off is good but you'll go home knackered - although you do sleep well.
