can a belfast postie please explain to me why they are hammering out the door in their own cars and wasting their own fuel, rushing around breaking health and safety rules and guidelines, causing your body fatigue, not taking breaks at all so they can get their walk and summer lapsing done driving from point to point, just to save themselves around ten minutes per day or in an extreme circumstance 20 mins????

u know who u are and the rest of us are goin to point u out to the management so u get more on your duties as u r proving u can do more work for the same pay than the rest of us....

also when you cant handle the extra work cos the cars on delivery bond is due to end in 15 weeks time and u permanantly have the extra work load on ur duty, we will not be backing u up.... where is ur solidarity u COWARDS!!!!!!!

I actually asked our manager about this, Cars on delivery is not being banned until the extra vans are in the office. So they are taking the parts of the agreement that suit them best, surprise surprise.

Actually doesn't bother me one way or another taking my car, atm my part duty (due to injury and doing indoor work) is on my way home. I have business insurance too. Doesn't save me any time, well maybe a couple of minutes walking, but as long as I can take my car I will.

The proof of the pudding came this week when I had to go collect my son early due to having a severe allergic reaction to antibiotics he was given for tonsilitis. Ended up having to go to hospital for a load of injections, is now on steroids and antihistamines due to his throat and tongue swelling. Would hate to think the state he would have been in if I didn't have my car with me and had to wait for someone collecting my duty from me. We were lucky to get to hospital on time.

I start on time, and finish on time just for the record, unless an emergency crops up with one of the weans. That's when I appreciate having my car with me!

sorry to hear bout ur kid and if its a individual case where say ur child has a medical condition that forces u to have quick means to get home regularly then by all means take ur car, however no offence but i am talking about work here and everyone cant run around thinking, oh i should take my car incase theres an emergency, running urself into the ground will cause us all to have medical problems ie. walking four hours plus a day.... im not getting on that plane it might crash, im not gonna get on that boat it might sink, im not going out in that sun i might get sun stroke?? where does it stop, by all means take ur car to work if u work indoors or if ur worried bout sumthin happening ie. emergency, then each morning u could leave ur car at ur walk b4 u start ur duty then u could have it sitting there wen u r on ur walk, ie. u will still have to get the bus etc in the morning like ur supposed to do.... doing the job abiding by thge rules is the only way to have a job as its cuts cuts cuts every year, where have u bin?? its time to stand up to royal mails bullying managers and say enough is enough...
ps. how does it only save u a couple of minutes?? u r saving royal mail bus fares/fuel wotever way u look at it..... do they provide u with fuel money???? i rest my case

ur 110% right, i watch it every morning.... im gonna ring up the red coats and get them all fined, that will sicken them wen their cars r ticketed lol, fair was fair wen using ur car was saving u the guts of an hour, ie. saving u and saving royal mail a few quid on bus fares, eveybody happy.... but no royal JAIL want more out of u, they want u to take ur car and work to the last minute without any supplement for fuel or car wear n tear get away and f***.... wots wrong with these people, u no longer make time, get a life u narrow minded fools....

Sadly (for you), you won't have that option for much longer:
All delivery revisions will be planned on the basis of no use of private cars. Private cars on delivery will cease upon the deployment of a Delivery Methods revision in a unit.
Individuals will always be trained on the correct use of equipment prior to use. This will also apply to the introduction of and best use of new technology on delivery routes e.g. PDA, Telemetry.
*Car Derived Vans (CDVs) / Shared Van delivery Routes
Guidelines have been developed with input from the CWU and are available to support Managers and CWU reps with advice and direction during the planning and introduction of local delivery methods revisions. Any future updates to guidelines will be developed with input from the CWU prior to being issued.

So as soon as your revision takes place, you won't be allowed to use your own car any more. Although you'll probably be in a CDV anyway, so you'll still have transport to go and get your car in an emergency. So hopefully, that won't be too much of a problem.

But please can you look at what you're doing at the moment, from the point of view of your collegues. Not neccessarily the ones at your DO. But Nationally. Not everyone is willing to pay for their own business insurance, pay for the extra petrol/diesel, extra servicing, tyres, etc., etc.. In order to match the speed of those who choose to use their own cars. And bear in mind, that if someone has a fairly new car. They could loose thousands of pounds more in depreciation, than if they didn't use their car on deliveries. Remember: Mileage is important when you come to re-sell a fairly new car.

And what about those who CAN'T drive?
They have no hope of matching someone who's using their car. But they're still expected to do so. It's hardly fair, is it?

I hear theres a fair bit of ghostin of the old overtime being done in cars and vans in that office if you our one of the favourites.
I heard of guys who do there driving duty or walk and another duty
Get paid 6 hours o.t and still get back before there time.
This is while the poor guys who arent in favour are on complete ball buster duties with not a hope in hell of getting finished on time ever!!

As for saving 10 minutes or 20 at a stretch .......... rubbish . I come in at 9am and pass guys who have been standing waiting on a driver for at least 15 minutes . I bag up and leave around 9.30 am and the SAME guys are STILL standing there waiting ( although not always but MOST of the time )

Now if i never had the car I would have to leave earlier in the morning costing me 15 minutes . Bag up im out for 9.30 am . The guys waiting before me are taken out 1st and i am waiting at least 30 minutes . 15 and 30 = 45 minutes saved so far . Now if i take my own bags etc I dont have to wait 15 minutes for my 1st bag . Another 15 minutes saved .

Thats now at least 1 hour ive saved and when ive finished my duty its either a half hour walk or 15 minute walk for the bus and another 20 minutes ON it . Thats AN HOUR AND A HALF I SAVE AT LEAST EVERY DAY ! ! ! Do you want me to change and work 1 and a half hours per day JUST SO YOU ARE HAPPY ? ? ? Get lost !

There was loads in my office that used there cars,.......but when EA came in that all stoped.....BUT.....after 4 days strike and getting 3 partimers in....after they came in the office as casuals, knowing what we went on the gate for, one of them users his car.....am soooooooo about it ...he just pleases himself.....oh YES as well ......refuses to join union
