BT PAY 2010 - Prepare for Action.

Post by LJR »

An update on the CWU BT workers dispute.

Branches will be preparing over the coming days to return a massive yes vote in the pay ballot in BT. It is incredible that while BT CEO Ian Livingstone’s pay package is in excess of £3 million, BT employees are being denied an inflation proofed pay deal. Members are extremely angry at their treatment by BT over the past 2 years. This anger alone should ensure a massive yes vote in the ballot. Having sacrificed their pensions along with bearing the brunt of huge job cuts that have been achieved on the back of bullying and harassment of our members it is now time to right the wrongs of the past.

Openreach members are doubly angry due to being forced onto new attendance patterns after a clear no vote in a postal ballot.
The recent financial results have been achieved without the impact of the new attendance patterns as they are still being negotiated in the business units and GM patches. This begs the question: are they absolutely necessary to the success of BT and if not then why was the union executive persuaded by this argument?

According to Reuters BT has exceeded its target for job reductions. See the report below!

Telecoms operator BT announced alongside its full-year results that it had exceeded its job cut target by about 5,000, taking the number of cuts over two years to 35,000, the Sunday Telegraph reported.
BUSINESS | UK
BT had said it would cut 15,000 jobs in the year to April, on top of 15,000 jobs cut the year before. In fact, it has cut a total of 35,000 jobs over the length of its turnaround effort.
The paper, quoting no sources, said the company's finance director is aiming for at least a further 5,000 job cuts this year.

It is for this reason that the service is creaking with members being asked to work overtime and team leaders and coaches are forced to take calls to reduce work queues. At the same time BT has opened a further scheme to allow members to leave voluntarily in BT Operate. This doesn’t tally with the high workloads that our members are having to cope with, in an increasingly hostile and stressful work environment.

The CWU executive appears to have no strategy for dealing with the staff shortages and has not even commented on BTs latest jobs reduction plans. BT has probably refused to increase the pay offer because they believed on the basis of past performance that the union executive would accept it.
Members should vote yes because they now hate the job they once enjoyed, they should vote yes because they and their colleagues are being asked to achieve the unachievable and they should vote yes because they know they deserve it!!

So can anyone explain why CWU are calling for an escalation in the BT IA because 2% pay offer isn't nearly enough yet they accepted a LOWER pay award for us this year? They want 5% increase??? ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH :Sick
