Re: Traffic Figures
what Betelgeuse is trying to say is that volume is up but revenue is down because dsa is delivered at at a loss.
how smug he must be feeling!
most of us understand that . Its volume we postman have to deliver and its volume thats not falling.
if royal mail want to be honest with the public they should talk about why revenue is down .

Re: Traffic Figures
We've been told on here often enough that DSA is included in traffic figures. If my office is anything to go by, DSA is about 70% of letters and flats!Night Tonic wrote:And how much of that traffic is DSA
We also have the traffic figures put up (or made up) on a board, but I'm not sure if the numbers quoted are meant to be for individual walks or the entire office.
Last week we had a very heavy Tuesday, I had 5/6 items for most addresses, every walk was the same. Wednesday was a lot lighter, but according to the traffic figures we had 20,000 more on the Wednesday than the Tuesday. I think they make them suit their needs. Surprisingly, Tuesday is a short day (1.00pm finish for F/T) and Wednesday is later.

Re: Traffic Figures
Last week, we had a really light mon and tue, then really heavy wed to fri. I think traffic figures are a contentious issue due to the fact that they are mostly averages based on weight. There is no easy way of recording accurate figures, but weighing has ceased in my office, since the figures now come straight from the MC. I think if RM had no issues with accuracy, then we'd still be weighing yorks as soon as they roll off the van, lets face it, its not very time consuming. I personally don't trust the figures
and with regards to revenue and DSA, well as far as I'm concerned my workload is the same regardless. Sometimes I feel like I work for TNT, and who knows, maybe soon we all will

Re: Traffic Figures
we weigh hardly anything in our office.
pouches almost never
hcts rarely.
people under pressure just want to get out the door .
and as you say the weight is rising all the time. RM
are complicit in possible health and safety breaches by turning a blind eye
and not enforcing the weighing of loads.

The sad truth is tell me one office in the uk that follows the guide lines on weighing bags, and the answer would probably be none.chunk wrote:we weigh hardly anything in our office.

As you said chunk, people within the office are just wanting to get out the door as quick as possible. But by not doing the job properly, especially when it comes to not weighing bags might put yourself at risk. The worst case scenario is having an accident on your walk, dom weighs your bag back at the office, you wouldn't have any sympathy or support, it would just be a case of its your own fault, you won't get any sick pay.

Injuring a colleague would be an act of gross negligence and should be a sackable offence.
Weigh all bags.

Re: Traffic Figures
Totally agree. Weigh all bags and if you find one over weight, start breaking it down in the vicinity of the scales and watch the managers faces
Seriously tho, do it, its a H&S issue for them and us

It was found that 100% self recording of delivery pouch weights wasn't a sustainable solution, and wasn't ensuring consistent compliance to pouch weight limits as staff in many Delivery Offices inspected were still taking out overweight pouches. HSE Inspectors found that no checks on pouch weights were being undertaken in some Delivery Offices and in others where pouches were weighed and found to be excessive no action was taken. Where record sheets were kept, Pouch Weights didn't always tally with record sheets or record sheets were incomplete or not used in some locations.
As such a pouch weight sampling strategy and checking system was developed which went away from individuals weighing and recording their own pouch weights on record sheets and instead introduced a random sampling process whereby typically, sampling will be carried out by management on a daily basis with in the range of 5 -15% of all the walks at each Delivery Office. Under the process, as a minimum, the DOM will ensure that a sample of 5 -15% of all Delivery Rounds or a minimum 2 - 4 full delivery walks per day will have all pouches weighed, checked and recorded on the new pro-forma provided by the Delivery Office Manager or the delivery person's immediate supervisor. All pouch weights on the randomly selected delivery rounds will be recorded on a new pro-forma (copy attached). This process will take place in each Delivery Office and non-compliance with the weight limits can lead to a 1 to 1 meeting between the DOM and individual in order to find solutions or alternatively a general talk to the Delivery Office staff at a 'Work Time Listening and Learning Session' (WTLL) which can take place to discuss compliance. This will in turn be subject to audit check by the Regional Safety Director's team and will also be subject to scrutiny by LA and HSE Inspectors, should an Inspection be carried out.

Under the process, as a minimum, the DOM..........
So on top of this any bags that are close to the 11kg should be checked to ensure they are not overweight.
Given that most people don't have a set of scales in their forearm, and couldn't tell a 9kg bag from a 12kg bag, nearly all bags should still be weighed but it is no longer necessary to record all weights.
That's how I read it. Postmen should still look after their drivers and ensure all drop bags conform to the new matrix.

The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

This would be the same drivers who twist their bodies sideways whilst flinging the bags into the back of their vansclashcityrocker wrote:Under the process, as a minimum, the DOM..........
