Saturday D2Ds?

My cousin , who works in a neighbouring DO and doesn't have a computer , just phoned me to ask a question and i thought this would be the place to come for answers. His office lapses a walk every day apart from thurs and friday. He personally only does it on ridiculously quiet tuesdays and every saturday (due to the fact that on a Sat the 2nd van is early and the absense of a missort run) This afternoon his DOM boxed in 3 sets of D2Ds for the lapsed duty ready to go for tomorrow. My cousin says that you can refuse to take D2Ds on a Sat. I would have thought that as long as it doesn't take you past your time the DOM is okay to do this but my cousin is adamant he is right.....Who's correct?

Im not sure if you can outright refuse as i think its only a matter of time that Sat becomes an ordinary day everywhere.
but im pretty sure you cant be asked to do 100%
a weeks worth in the one day?

I believe the existing D2D agreement (Feb 1996) allows for them to be delivered on a Saturday providing that there is a local agreement and on a voluntary basis.

Technically the existing D2D agreement is still in place until the 7th june,it states...

]By local agreement and on an individual voluntary basis Royal Mail Door to Door items may be delivered with the mail on Saturday mornings.

Did i misunderstand? Your cousin is only doing a portion of the lapsed walk?
if so i cant see hes got grounds to complain if hed normaly do that portion anyway
and the manager put them
the d2d's in.
if his lapse normaly takes 25min for arguments the d2d are going to add what?
lapsed walks are always going to contain d2d in the future now no-ones getting paid for them!

I would imagine a Dom would say something like this.

1, If you can do the lapsing within your duty hours get on with it.

2, As it is a lapsed duty YOU wont be doing 100% d2d.

3, And the old favourite, you dont get paid for delivering d2d you get paid for prepping it AND I have done that for you.(you should be thanking me).

Begs the question who was on the round during week and got away with not delivering them.

as far as i am aware d2d delivery is monday 2 friday which you have to sign for to get paid for as it is not live mail (yet) so it must be optional on a sat , your dom should have had these in on you slack days .

At this moment in time we are still on a 3.5 hour delivery span only. So it does not matter if you leave the office early or not , its still 3.5 hours. You should only lapse if you have enough time.....As for d2d, as far as im aware , its a minimum of 20% mon to fri.

UPDATE! He told the DOM that in the absense of any local agreement on the subject , on an "individual volountary basis" he wasn't prepared to volounteer! After much huffing and puffing by the DOM he calmly turned round and walked off. On returning to the office after completing his own round he sat out the back and had a coffee and a smoke. Whilst out there the DOM came out and asked him if he was going to do his lapsing , as it was only 11.45 my cousin replied that he would and the DOM walked off......................."but I'm not doing the f*cking door to doors!" The DOM came back and said "thats fine , I'll just put it through as a failure" . Just goes to show what an invaluable site this is for info!
