Re: buy down of hours
Voluntary Buy-Down of Hours
Individuals volunteering to reduce their hours in a surplus situation would receive a compensation payment based on the same formula as the calculation of redundancy compensation, pro-rata to hours given up. There will be no ceiling on this payment.

Have you requested a move to part-time hours as part of your return from maternity or are they trying to change your hours against your wishes?
If you have requested the change in hours then the business has no OBLIGATION to offer buy down.
Obviously if they are trying to force you into a change of hours this is a non-starter especially as you are just back from maternity leave.

Returning to work
When returning to work after ordinary maternity leave (the first 26 weeks of your Statutory Maternity Leave), you have a right to the same job and the same terms and conditions as if you hadn’t been absent.
This also applies when you come back after additional maternity leave (the last 26 weeks of your Statutory Maternity Leave). However, if your employer shows it is not reasonably practical to return to your original job (eg because the job no longer exists) you do not have the same right. In that case, you must be offered alternative work with terms and conditions as if you hadn’t been absent.
good times, bad times you know I've had my share

In our office ,most girls who come back after several months maternity leave, normally work for a few weeks at reduced hours, just to ease them back into the job, but with no reduction of pay. Check they don't mean this in the first instance. Happy Motherhood1
yep - anything forced on you could mean you have a case of sex discrimination!

New agreement clearly states that you can not be forced to go part time.redhead wrote:I requested reduced flexible hours, they said they want me on a permanent part-time contract,so if they are making me part-time then surely im entitled to a buy down of hours!!!!
And yes if they want you to go part time then you should have a buy down.
Don't let them f**k you over.
