Hours have changed

Hi, I'm not sure if anyone else has been told this.

I'm on a part time 25 hour contract at present.

I was told last week that, after being with the company 6 months, my hours are changing from a 5 x 5 week, to working a 4 day week on 6 and 1/4 hours a day (the hours have changed from 9am to 2pm - 7:45am to 2pm). I will have every Mon/Tuesday off each week (the lighest days of course! )

So now I guess this means that I'll be sorting my entire fitting out each morning?

We haven't got a union rep in for the whole week, so I can't really ask anyone if they are allowed to do this or not. I'm not too fussed about it if I'm honest, but I was happy on 5 x 5.

i didnt think they could just change a contract like that. your contract should say 9-2 right? surely they have to agree to cahnge. but, if i was you id be happy. working 4 days and doing self prerp is alwasy better.

I'm happy enough with the change, but didn't know if they could just change it like that.

My contract says 9-2 yes. Will be interesting to see how quick I can get the fitting prepped as it's one of the biggest in the office and most of it is usually done when I come in as I'm part time.

If I were you I'd be happy with the change - I remember being a 25 hour reserve, and how you could never predict what state the duty would be in because they would get different people to throw it in and prep it. A bit like steering your own boat, throwing in your own fitting - even if the boat sometimes turns out to be the Titanic

If it is a 3.5hr delivery + 30min break + 30 min conveyance/pouch off then you will have 1hr 45 to prep and tie down the walk.
You need to know the volume of mail the walk recieves and the standard you are expected to work to, to know if this is enough time. Don't forget the D2D should also be in your workload now.
As for the Mon/Tues off every week - show the DOM the part in the agreement that talks about 1 in 4 Saturdays off. Because unless there is a very special reason that includes you as well.

Don't forget you have 30mins meal break and possible 30 mins traveling time there and back to contend with.

I'll see what happens tommorow and then report back, I'm a 10 minute walk from the office with a trolley so there are no distance issues really.

this was mentioned in my office ,the trouble is you won't be throwing in your walk you will be delivering half of an other
5 to 6 hours walking a day you will need 3 days off in bed recovering

Having a bad day today ffs i missed that and just saw your post,1-45 is cutting it fine to do the whole lot aint it.

Did the full-timers decide that?
They stay in and prep and the p/t do 1.5 walks?
No wonder some people refer to them as workshy c***s.

On average I prep perhaps a maximum of 50/60 a day, usually magazines/flats etc and a few loose letters after I arrive. I have 700 addresses and about 25 businesses so I'll probably have about 2000/2500 letters or so to prep. I know the fitting well so I'm not too slow on the prepping side of things, though of course not upto the speed of a experienced hand.
