Seniority!

Hi all, im just wondering if seniority is still a factor in offices, ie priority of sitting on a walk over someone who has been there less time. I know the fact that its handier to train a newbe on a single run and let them sit there, but im talking about someone who has the same walk knowledge etc

Doesn't exist in my office anymore (not for me anyway).. ive done 10 years and now find myself a leave reserve whilst all the new starters on 20 or 25 hrs are given their own walk.

Seniority still rules in our office. The weird thing I find is that I never seem to move up. Everyone that leaves is below me in seniority and I haven't been there that long, getting on for ten years that's all. I guess once you get stuck in a rut you tend to stay put. Either that or the new people just can't hack it for long now the jobs turned to s**t, where as I'm now used to a bastard workload, s**t managers and crap pay!

Cheers for the replies, yeah it seems to be very selective in our office! What has angered me is that we are in a spdo and we dont have a manager in or office for more than 5 mins a fortnight! So the "postmaster", if thats what you would call this person, has let this person onto a run which is temp avaialble as the "usual postman" is now a temp manager, probably going to be permanent! And i have been promised the next walk is mine, as im next in line! Im currently a floater!
Now i have been in the job coming up 7 years and this person is only in 2 and a bit, funny thing is that hes a managers son lol, i tryied to rectify the problem ages ago to no avail, and really was angry that i lost out on all election material!
I was talking to the manager just before i was off on hols and told him i want it sorted before i come back and he said "its a delicate situation and it will be sorted" I cant understand that one! To me its just straight forward your here and im here, simplez!

I just want to prepair myself and know tha facts before i tackle the situation head on, and POSTMAN you reckon its definitly a fact thats it still counts?

Same here, seniority still exists where I am, but everyone who's started after me has come in as a part-timer so I will always be the lowest full time reserve and never get my own round. Part timers come in and jobs are made part time (by taking off the IPS element) and they have their own seniority ranking.

Say there's a vacant walk, and two of you apply for it. The most senior gets it. A couple of months later another walk comes up, and the same two apply for it, who gets it?

I've got my eye on a walk, but think I better apply for a different one, just in case the one I fancy doesn't come up, or someone more senior than me gets it. Will I shoot myself in the foot if I get the first one, then my preferred one comes up?

I'm sure there is a thing that you can't sign for loads of walks per year,something about you have to wait 12 months before signing again.
Obviously if there is a major revision then the chances are it would not apply.

I don't think you're allowed to do it by law... I'm not saying that's true but that's what I believed.

As far as I remember you can't sign for another walk for at least a year after signing for one.... unless you signed for it in a full office resign?
