We ve been having our mail counted this week to see if it tallys with what the mail centres say we are receiving at the moment all dutys receive more than what we are being told, lowest was 12% up to 42% no wonder they tell us mails dropping off,any other offices doin this.

Yeah a few of the jobs at mine have been checked over a few weeks back. Not sure if its re. the new agreement/changes or if it had to do with us being issued with new 'prep times.'

I frequently count trays that arrive on my fitting. Average, around 340 items. This doesn't tally with either RM or CWU figures, and it's hard to make across the board comparisons, but the margin of error in my experience is under 10% (spread 330 - 355).

On a more interesting (and amusing) note. A couple of weeks ago I had a huge row with my DOM and AD regarding the amount of prep time required on my walk. The next day (my day off), they, apparently, counted the mail coming onto my walk. Of course, they never mentioned this to me the following day (my mates did, though!)... However, I've now been taken off of 'other duties', and given more time to prep my walk!

how many letters per tray is it meant to be ? also we get loads of letters in with the trays that are split between two walks that are meant to be large flats ,i suppose they are not counted right .

I understand that, the point i was trying to make was the DOM gets the number of items that has been sorted to each individual walk on the W/sort
machines daily, he can print this off for you, all you need to do is count the manual yourself, not a big job compared to counting whats in the W/S

100% Accurate.... Little faith in that, I'm afraid! Not just because I doubt the veracity of the w/s machines, but also because on a 3/5 basis, I receive w/s bundles and/or boxes that have been incorrectly labelled with someone elses walk Number..... Not to mention the 'Mech Crash' bundles!

When do you lot get time to count mail !!

We have had counts going on for some time as there is such a big diffrence between what the mail centre is saying via it's figures that the delivery office is recieveing and we have found huge diffrences,traffic coming in means jobs and believe me they have chopped so many out in ours that it is causing major problems,the DOM in it's wisdom called us lazy he said it was in a fit of temper a mistake on his part(believe me it made a change for him to say to our faces that we were lazy )but he kept on saying it behind our backs,so we put the gauntlet down,we used tray counts,we have weighed ALT's we have counted mail and we have used figures from the machines" which if the machines have been checked for counts by engineers should be right",but if engineers have had hours taken away,engineers taken off duty's because they deemed that side was not needed in that area then thing's are not gonna get done,we are now counting packets on our walks because the revision is so out in our office that packets are laying around in there hundreds and walks blow daily because there is only so many hours in a day and they still believe that having these new machines is gonna be thier saviour but we have Union reps,area reps,health and safety reps doing the counts with the so called planning people,we have proved them so wrong so the end to this ditty is if you think there is some thing wrong start getting the people you need involved and prove um wrong,this has all come about in our place because they stopped measuring the traffic coming into our DO like they have yours!and the DOM calling us lazy!
