Can an OPG (reserve) be forced to cover a PHG duty if they don't feel comfortable with that level of responsibility?

Depends on what part of the PHG job is needed doing.
If the OPG is untrained then obviously they can't do it.

I could not walk into the RLE and just get on with it.

Well, training will be given, but I just don't feel I want the responsibility. The poblem is that having had a repick, no-one wants the duty so it will go to the lowest reserve, but I can't see how it's right that you can be forced to do a higher grade job if you dont want it.

There are no PHG's and as such RM can use anyone to work in the callers office. They must have training or they can say no but if RM want to train you then there isnt much else you can do. Obviously if you are not very good when getting trained then it is up to RM whether they want that problem in the callers office with so many specials

Mmm, see what you are saying. As well as all the specials it's the balancing of the till and the stamps, facing the public in the callers office, sorting the SA's out, getting all the stuff ready to go to the mail centre, locking up at night and being there alone and totally responsible, I'd find all a bit of a worry. Ah well.

Best way is that after training then just take 3/4 hours to do the specials...............just imagine all those posties chomping at the bit to get out (just remember to lock all the doors so that nobody can get at you), after only 1 day they'll find someone else.

Our PHG duties involve alternating an early shift and a late shift on a weekly basis.
I will never do the late shift.
So although trained I never get asked -ever.

Just hold the driver back by 20 minutes waiting to do the specials, I've done it in my office for a week and they've never asked me to do it again (missing specials, not answering the callers office, not locking up properly ).

Don't do it, I worked in Callers early/late shifts for 3 years and by the end I was nearly suicidal. You get no support from management and constant critism from the public. I've never been one to let things get to me so I was totally shocked by the state that job left me in.
