1 in 4 saturday cover idea

In my office at the minute there are 5 driving duties of various sizes. In the future revision this will be stripped to 2. These will be firms duties only, no bags, no oversized parcels etc etc. That will take them to around 4 hours per duty, and thats being generous.

Now, on a Saturday most firms are closed so these 2 drivers would have approx 30 minutes delivery time per duty, and maybe even thats being generous.

Thats where some of the slack will be taken in.

I'm pretty sure it would work in most offices, drivers with lots of firms which are closed on a Saturday are going to have to do something to fill their time.

At our place they do a packet sweep if they finish too early. Very rare though as TBH as our Drivers are maxed out with firms, bags, tracked and large packets every day including Saturdays.

Wouldn't work in my office. Firms deliveries do the packets on saturday. On weekdays they are done by collections duties which are mon-fri only.

AFAIUI there wont be any firms duties except for 1 who will do the pre 9 o'clock prios and timed business deliveries - the ones that pay for it.

When P&L comes in unless its a Business Park all firms will be put onto the relevant duty. Business Parks or concentrations of Firms will be done by the driver mentioned above.

Only 4 business parks on my patch so adding all firms would be the only way they'd work full hours.

As for timed deliveries what will be the point if a whole chunk of mail wont arrive until much later??

They're hardly going to pay for a 60% service unless theyre getting a 40% discount.

Sorry pet but every office is different and thats exactly what would happen on a saturday.

Seriously if 90% of firms are closed, do you think the drivers can get away with doing half an hour worth of deliveries then going home??

How else would they fill their time??

in our office we also have 2 drivers doing firms on saturdays both prep the jobs then 1 goes out and delivers both while the other 1 works in customer reception

I know what you're saying. The drivers in our office have at least an hour up their cuffs each day. They drag it out every single day. I know it for a fact. And on a Saturday, they do nothing. I don't know how they get away with it. Also the PHG does absolutely nothing. Never over the last 3 years and since the 2007 agreement has he done any extra work, while we're all absorbing. Yet now he as well as the drivers are getting the supplement and keeping their driving allowances and keeping the PHG allowance. It's f***ing wrong. They're all benefiting from my hard work and sweat. What did Ward say? "their's winners and losers"? Well we all know who the losers are. The men on the front line, the delivery postmen. Always has been and always will be. We get the s**t constantly. And the mail's down 9%? My f***ing arse.

I know what you mean about the drivers. How is it that most of them are also total pr**s?!

Hopefully the upcoming changes will see some of these work-shy time wasters given real jobs too as less drivers will be needed with 2M&V
