Ex Fedex Supervisor getting extra allowance.

Post by smok3y666 »

At the distrobution centre where I work it used to be PF and FedEx. FedEx lost the contract and we got all of it and took on the FedEx staff on their original contracts one of them being a supervisor with 20+ years service. The supervisor came over to PF on his original t&c's and pay. Over the last few months it was decided a supervisor was required which attracted an additional allowance on top of our pay and 3 of us put in for it, me, my colleague and the FedEx supervisor. Last week my manager and union rep sat us down in a one 2 one and I was told that because the FedEx supervisor was already being paid at a higher rate and near enough on the supervisors money that he would be getting the position. The position has not, as far as I am aware, been advertised other than us being asked who would like to do it. I did not have a problem with the FedEx guy getting the position as i'm not all that bothered about it but, the FedEx guy has now gone to the union and is expecting to get the allowance on top of already being paid at the higer rate. This has wound me up firstly because of what I was told in the one 2 one, secondly because he only has 2 years to retire and thirdly because I have been asking and asking to get formally trained to progress my career. No one has filled out an application form for the position and no one has been interviewed and I have been told that if interviews were held he would get the position anyway becuase he has seniority despite actually only being employed with PF since February.

I would like to know if all this is BS or is it correct and I should just forget about it?

Also, our union reps favourite saying at the moment seems to be "if you don't like it there are 2 options put up and shut up or go work for £5.50 somewhere else". I find this completely the wrong attitude for someone who is supposed to be on the workers side on not sucking up to senior management.

his wages are carried over from before,so taking on a supervisors role would entitle him to the same rate increase as anyone else

what exactly is the issue?
you have mentioned loads of factors like advertising, retirement, seniority so what is the main issue

So as you're evidently not a postie moaning about how RM are going to shaft me because I finsished early everyday and took the piss I haven't got a bit more to say, or have I missed the point you were somehow trying to make, and what's all this about finishing early every day, and is it really your intention to make this all so confusing ?

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.
