Get your rep to flag it to Area, Div and HQ immediately - HQ can start their Traffic Light system for your office

What was needed above all was accurate information from the field so that neither side was relying on anecdotes provided by the other and the suggestion is to set up a traffic lights system so that every unit can be monitored to see where they are and what the problems are.

so wat happens if you are slow and dont meet the rquired rate do they retrain you or say u arnt fast enuff
in our office havnt u noticed wen a person leaves there is no recruit 6 people have gone in the past year but no new comer
is it r mail like paying o/t or is it the future for partimers which will come wen the walk sort comes in
it will be 75% full time 25% part time because those machines will enable a postie to throw 2 walks up it takes to take one
there fore a partimer will come in and take the other walk out

I take it you mean prep and not IPS?

You should be capable in IPS at about 33 per minute and prep is 25 per minute. There are various rules and conditions but with prep. including flats and packages it is supposed to average at 12 per minute up to the point when all your mail is in bundles. I haven't done more than 10.4 average and 19 per minute although I've only been on the same job for a maximum of 4 days (without sequenced mail)

I think sequenced mail is about 50 per minute which is very difficult on a large frame but quite easy on a high volume town delivery (i.e. you put 4 or 5 letters in each slot)

They tried to discipline me but I pointed out that "allowances should be made for new to duty" and that 85% after 4 days was quite good. I suggested I would improve if they tidied up the frames and kept me on the same job for a bit longer. They said they'd retest me next week but I refused unless something changed (i.e. train me or implement my recommendations). I said I'd put a grievance in against the DOM if they tried to intimidate me by retesting on exactly the same terms again.
That was a quite a few months ago now.

12 a minute on IPS is not a lot, I think ours is set at 25 for both prep and IPS (which needless to say is unachievable).

For the record the indivdual performance agreement still holds the field. That agreement is a 1 min test only.

There is no agreement for any other indivdual test. Royal Mail have agreed that the new standards will be worked up with the union.

Do not accept any other standards get in touch with your area rep or your Divisional rep.

When i started, if you could not sort 500 in 20 mins you could not get made up to F/T, cant see any problems with a minimum standard
as long as it is acheivable, in our office the usual suspects drag it out, i often say if you could sort with your tongue we'd of finished IPS
30 MINS EARLIER :funneh :funneh

The problem with setting minimum standards Stevie is just where do you set the bar?
Especially if you are a union and your primary aim is protecting your members. :hmmmm

The 1 minute test (which is the only agreement) can be achieved for 1 minute BUT NOT continous. I.E. Fatigue, frame getting full etc. With the new agreement, possibly more prep for full timers so the new agreed standards MUST be achievable. We will see what CWU and RM come up with :pray :pray :pray :left:

The 500 in 20 mins with 99 per cent accuracy was not with live mail it was cards.

The fact is that flats, packets and letters all have different planning values and of course the planning values vary on what frames you use ie if you sort flats in a 48 or56 letter box fitting it will be slower than if you do it on a flat sorting frame.

Do not disagree mate, but if a properly trained person cannot reach a standard of lets say 15 a minute then (acheivable)
no wonder we have some performance issues in SOME units. I understand our unions aim is to protect us, however whether
we like it or not RM is a business , it stopped being a public service years ago

Take your time, I can quite happily wait years for the CWU to agree with RM the individual performance targets needed for us poor buggers to be expected to make up for the shortages of staff on the IPS in the mornings.
