Is there any difference in the agreed walk speed between walking with a pouch or using a golf type trolley?
Considering the trolley can hold a fair amount more mail!

Dont know the official answer, but golftrolleys ,you need fewer drop bags,A Fully loaded pouch your walk spped has to be slow to start .
In my office Golf trolleys are growin in popularity ,mainly out of nessescatity. Most guys who have suffered a back problem at any stage use a trolley.
Once you get use to a trolley few would go back to carrying a pouch.

Agreed, although it does add on about 20 minutes on a 3.5 hour delivery. Then you have the problem of special deliverys being kept on your person at all times, security, etc. They do take the weight of the shoulder, however, as you are pushing this thing round for over 3 hours, you are simply moving the injury from upper back to lower back/shoulders/hip/thigh.kendo1 wrote:Dont know the official answer, but golftrolleys ,you need fewer drop bags,A Fully loaded pouch your walk spped has to be slow to start .

I have used one for a few years now, after injuring my back, it's good, but not as good as RM/CWU say it is.

how often do you see a horse pushing a cart, or a golfer pushing his trolley ?pinstripe wrote:Agreed, although it does add on about 20 minutes on a 3.5 hour delivery. I used a High cap trolley for about 3 years and yes it does take longer as you need to take time in handling the trolley etc. However you are able to take a lot more mail with you in the trolley and this saves on bag drops, plus you carry less mail on your back which is great. If we get a repick i will prob go back to a trolley.
Rows of houses all bearing down on me........I can feel their blue hands touching me.......All these things in all positions.........All these things will one day take control..........

Re: Walk speed - Pouch bag or Trolley difference?
I've used a golf trolley since my AOD but I wanted one anyway on my old round because it was too heavy for me. Took me so long to walk around because of the weight (yes, I'm a feak and weeble woman... with the stomach of a concrete elephant!) because it made me unsteady/off balance and I was scared of falling down the stairs/steps I encountered.
On the round I'm doing now, I use a HCT and I love it. I rarely carry a bag (refuse to since the AOD as it buggers my hip up again) and if I do, it only has a small bundle or a few packets in it.
Only thing I don't love, is pushing it back up the bloody hill back to the office!

RM guidelines state that the golf trolley is to be pushed, not pulled. Although how you are meant to get it up kerbs is a mystery.Pegman wrote:how often do you see a horse pushing a cart, or a golfer pushing his trolley ?pinstripe wrote:Agreed, although it does add on about 20 minutes on a 3.5 hour delivery. Re: Walk speed - Pouch bag or Trolley difference?
And my old DOM reckoned it was OK to leave my golf trolley outside a property while I went indoors and upstairs to deliver mail... the ADOM told me to take the bags off if I needed to leave the trolley and take them in with me. I asked him what the point of using the trolley if I was going to carry the bags anyway as the whole point of using the trolley was that I wasn't carrying any weight? He just sighed at me and walked off. Plus, the street I was talking about, I was indoors and upstairs delivering to virtually every other door so I'd have spent more time taking the bags off than I would've spent delivering.

I think you are supposed to walk to the next dropped kerb where this wouldn't be a problempinstripe wrote:RM guidelines state that the golf trolley is to be pushed, not pulled. Re: Walk speed - Pouch bag or Trolley difference?
I think a HCT would save me time on my walk, I could put the entire delivery in it which will save the 5-10mins of cycling back to my drop point each time to change a bag. Light days my delivery is 4-5 bags, heavy days it's 6-8 bags which adds up to a lot of time spend between bags. It would also save me time at the flats and even some roads, I can walk up the stairs with the bundle and leave the HCT downstairs or at the end of the road while I loop up then down the road back to the HCT.
The only problem is my delivery is about 3 miles away from the office so that's a spanner in the works.
