Hi folks, I did not deliver to a house today because it had a massive wasp on the letter box, I stuck around for about a min but the beast was not for moving. Thing is, I hate the bloody things and i'm terrified of them. They fly about and just decide who to put on there s**t list for no reason, they are the nazis of the insect world. Could I get in trouble for not delivering to that house? Thanks.

Only if you decided to throw the mail in the bin, if you just took it back to the depot/stuck it in a postbox and acted like it's a mis-sort you should be fine.

that was probably the 'queen' and apparently does not sting ? they are at this time of year comming out of hibernation ? (or does the queen' lay ' a new queen for the next seasons quest for insects) to start nest building seems as if this one wants to make the letter box it's home

Just exaggerate slightly and you'll be fine.

Endorse the mail in exactly the same way you would if a dog had been in the garden.
Obviously write "big wasp at large" and not "dog".
Then wait until everyone starts laughing at you.
We used to have little stickers with paw prints for dogs.
Ask your DOM if he has any black/yellow stripe ones for insects.

I'd have used their mail to knock it out the way though and then screamed like a big jessie just in case it came anywhere near me...

Wasps will sting if they sense danger or fright, the stinging actually realeases a chemical which attracts other wasps from the nest, so you could soon find yourself in the middle of a swarm, the same is true of bees.
Wasps can sting more than once, and often do.
Queen wasps or bees are very rarely seen out of the nest, a nest can only have one queen, worker bees or wasps kill any egg in the nest which is developing a Queen.

Chances are the beast you saw was one from the continent, they are about three times the size of a standard British wasp, but look exactly the same other than size, if it was a deeper yellow almost orange colour then it was more likely to be hornet, and if you think a wasp is a nasty piece of work a hornet will make it look like a pussy cat.

The best way to move a bee or wasp on it's way is to gently blow at it from distance, normally this will dislodge it, and it will fly off.

I'm guessing this happened on a Sunny day,as it is not the time of year for wasps or hornets yet, and this one woke up a bit early, the box flap was probably warm, and it would certainly have still been sleepy, thats the worse type, they sting for fun when comning round from hibernation, so avoid at all costs.

All this info came from my now departed Dad who used to keep bees, so as far I can say it's all correct and good advice, I have never been stung following this guide.

I have an allergy to dry cement dust and have used that a few times to avoid delivering to building developments. I cannot rem if i mentioned it in my interview, it was a long time ago

I have hay-fever and I didn't mention it during my interview ...............do you think that I should mention that the advice I've been given is to stay indoors from now until September
