Was diagnosed with kidney failure in July 2009, was off for 5 months getting set up on dialysis and getting back to reasonably fit state for work. Been back to work since January, and last month I temporally cut my full time contract from 40 hours to 30 hours, to start preparing for my transplant operation on July 23rd. My question is how much sick pay have I got left? As I have received conflicting answers. Been told 6 months full and 6 months half or 6 months full and 3 months half.
Also how long do I have to be back at work after the transplant to be re instated with full sick benefits again, as because I am only 31 I may require another transplant in future life.

The above is right,but i don't think it runs like that year on year.6 months full and 6 months half
No doubt someone will come on to confirm it as i can't rem the exact details of how it works.

Yes, this is difficult to work out as it is not quite as simple as saying if you are back for x amounht of time, you will go back onto full sick pay for 6 months.Your entitlement is worked out from year to year, (R/M's year)--so on the face of it you may only have a couple of months of full pay left. you really should contact H.R they should be able to give you a written breakdown of what you are still entitled too. also, if you will be needing a lot of care for some time after your transplant, you should be able to claim some extra benfits etc..so go for it. Very good luck with your operation, and let us know how you get on. Have they mentioned ill- health retirement to you? And would you want to take it?

As I understand the total time you have of is added up over 4 years, so if you over 6 months over that period you drop to 1/2 pay and pension rate if you go over 12. However if it is due an AOD you go 12 months full pay before dropping to pension rate

If you do go on half pay you are also entitled to statutory sick pay.

Again every case is slightly individual from the other. Please go to H/R, and if they do not send you details direct, they can send it to your Manager.Normally, if you are of sick for a considerable time, you should indeed get a letter detailing what entitlements you still have, several weeks before your pay runs out.-

Well i`ve been off sick for 8 months and how it has worked for me , is. I had full pay for 6 months and half pay now, SSP is about £79 odd and made up part of my full pay. When I went onto half pay, it was on top of my half pay . All I had left of my SSP entitlement was 1 week and 4 days , when I went onto half pay , which has run out, so now i`m just on half pay. That`s was how it was explained to me.
