Counting Packets/parcels

Post by fly-catchers »

Hi
Have other offices here been told to count all the parcels/packets you get on your round each day? No doubt another pointless CWU/RM exercise which will have no positive end result!!
What with counting packets, polling cards, election material etc you barely have time for a delivery!! :cuppa

This week I have been counting them out and counting them back in. Can't seem to get rid of more than 25% which isn't going to be improved by even later starts. Apparently the early evening queues for collection from the caller's are horrendously long.
Brilliant customer service!

Traffic numbers are included in Pegasus/Gio-route when they plot and design them so although its a real pain in the arse initially it will help get balanced rounds especially if the rep is involved in planning plotting on new duties.

My advice do it and try to keep your own figures as well, as an independent check.

Of course this might not be the reason they are doing it in individual offices and if you suspect a management trick then ask them why they are doing it, or go to the Rep and ask him if he is aware and why.

We had to count our packets once, lasted a week and then it was stopped under instruction from the DSM :chuckle (I was on an average duty and I was doing about 50-60 a day).

The process is now called a rolling barometer and reps can count mail/packets for as long as they chose now and the dom has to let it take place.

This week in our office we have started a count on all traffic that comes into our office.

It has nothing to do with pegasus or any revision ours is an exercise to prove the figures coming out of the M/CS are wrong.

we had the same problem , we had to weight the mail and everything else that came in that day , but then we was told we was wrong (to high obvious) as the m/c figures was miles behind ,dont do it no more , now constantly being told mail is down , you cant win threr always right.

We had to count flats a couple of weeks ago, but nobody could tell me which flats, or even what a flat was.

Ive already found discrepancies (hope ive spelt that correct) in the percentage of mail certain walks get.

In some case over 300 items more which is the equivalent to 27 minutes prep time but on the other hand some walks have had less mail than the predicted figure.

I shall continue my quest to prove the figures are wrong and i dont care if i have to do a count for 12 months.

What i did notice was for eigth sleeves of packets R/M say there are only 187 packets in each sleeve so for tomorrows exercise im going to count a sleeve.
