Bitter wallet - 3923 readers - wow - I mean I would have left that many 739s whilst people were in during my delivery career.

this debate winds me right up, i have left loads of 739s when people were clearly in, the trouble was they were fking hoovering up or had music playing too loud that they didnt hear the door. Not my problem

I wonder if the author of this survey is the same fella who was a senior manager at London's Mount Pleasant office back in the late nineties? Or maybe I'm just getting paranoid and cynical in my old age lol.
And even when they became discontented, their discontent led nowhere, because, being without general ideas, they could only focus it on petty specific grievances. The larger evils invariably escaped their notice.

The time has come to stop turning the other cheek, time to stop shaking our heads in bitter dismay, time to stop mumbling our angry words.
The time has come for union.
The time has come for union.

Think how long it takes to write one of these blasted cards, line by line ticking boxes.... on one leg...... in the rain..... with a bundle of mail balancing precariously on your knee !

My response, which is awaiting moderation (I doubt it'll get published) is as follows:
What a frivolous, pointless article – the only good thing about it is that it is mercilessly short, undoubtedly influenced by the writer’s goldfish-like attention span. As for the contentious claim made in its scant content, as a postman I can tell you that on countless occasions I have hammered on doors at a volume that would wake the dead, to no avail. Usually, I then begin to write out one of those ‘while you were out cards’, and invariably, just as I finish writing it, some bleary eyed, oblivious cretin comes to the door with an annoyed look on his/her face as if I’ve just killed their first born. While delivering parcels, I’ve had brainless morons stare at me through their windows with no acknowledgment of my presence, and some of them just wander off and don’t bother to answer the door. I even had one jobless, 40-something waste of space ask me to hold on for a minute while he finished a game on his Playstation, which I could see him playing through the window.
Here’s some edification to prevent you from posting further clueless ramblings about the supposed laziness of postmen – we each have a 3 hour and 30 minute span to deliver mail to around 650 houses – that works out at about 19 seconds for each house. In an average day I have between 30 to 50 parcels, each taking between 10 seconds to 3 minutes to deliver depending on the relative alertness/ age /closeness to death of the intended recipient. Because Royal Mail managament have cut our delivery span to the bone, all it takes is a run of a few slow-to-respond customers to throw our schedule out of whack, which heaps further pressure on tired, over-worked postal workers.
But what do you care, you’re just an unimaginitive hack whose idea of wit is to jump on the Royal Mail bashing bandwagon.
