1 in 4 saturdays off

Post by coxie »

Our managment team are already planning in the next week or 2 to have us starting later on saturdays, if this is the case are we within our rights to demand 1 in 4 off on average or will it be a case as usual of them just picking out the bits of the agreement that suits them and bring that in 1st?

yes i would slap the terms of agreement right in their face regards this
this is it starting mgmt doing what they think they can get away with
where is your cwu group to work with mgmt regards local agreements
sounds like ex action
our own office we are not moving on del spans dtds sat working later start times until our own requirments are met
via agreemennt
we are not letting them introduce anything piecemeal bit by bit to suit themselves
our manager doesnt have a clue how to introduce 1 in 4 off re sats and rembr 1 in 4 is minimum

Just a quick thought. If you do manage to get these extra sats off, you may well end up loosing the long weekend. If they cant cover sats, how are they going to cover the mons as well.

We have been told by our DO that there is "no chance" of our office ever getting 1 in 4 Saturdays off.

Then don't agree to any changes its all part of the same agreement.

It does pose one question though - why do management see all agreements as a Image instead of as a whole.

Been told this aswell,as agreement says 1 in 4 saturdays where it is possible within an office--might be wrong but thats what I was told

The actual wording from the document on Saturday attendances

Page 25
Saturday Attendances
In addition to the above it is jointly recognised that Saturday attendances and in particular the number of Saturdays worked require special attention in order to meet the aspirations of employees and the needs of the business.

In recognition of this Royal Mail and CWU commit to providing more Saturday off options as part of improved attendance patterns for delivery employees. We have jointly explored and identified a number of options/opportunities to maximise the number of Saturdays off.

Whilst the precise number of Saturdays off and the aspirations of employees will vary from unit to unit, both parties believe we can deliver cost effective and reliable options that will maximise the number of Saturdays off for those who wish them. Royal Mail and CWU commit to achieving at least 1 in 4 Saturdays off for the majority of employees (including reserves) during the roll out of the operational transformation programme. In some circumstances this may be exceeded utilising jointly identified options to provide 1 Saturday off in 2 or 3.
Progress on all the issues/objectives above will be jointly monitored and reviewed at national level on an ongoing basis.
Page 27 - Dealing with revisions
In order to inform the revision discussions and provide a reference for employee aspirations, including options around Saturday attendances in line with the paragraph on attendances and duty structures an informal non binding preference exercise (provided nationally) will be carried out prior to the commencement of the 6 step revision process.
Page 17 - in Key objectives
It means creating a fresh role for Delivery employees through the introduction of flexible working practices, improved attendance patterns (including fewer Saturdays), a better work-life balance, and by continuing to provide reasonable levels of take home pay.

In the voice,Dave Ward said you are 'Guaranteed' 1 in 4 off.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.
My BFF Clash
The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

We have been told that 1 in 4 saturdays off is not viable as we have a small office, 40 staff, however friends of the manager seem to get more saturdays off than others, i dont think this is very fair at all
