Minimum standards ?

In our office we have been told that we cannot cut off or book over unless we have more than 1300 items of mail. Is this an agreed figure does anyone know ? We have town walks which are fine but some of the rurals cover 55 miles and take a lot longer !

Yes I know in theory that they can`t make you work over ,but it seems that there are some sort of minimum standards that have been agreed !

We've had this discusion in our office loads of times. Our local rep and area rep have always stated there is no agreed prep rate and no agreed figure for amount of items required to cut off. Our manager once said people should only be struggling if they have over 1600 items. which for my duty structure would give an overall prep rate of 26.6 items a minute...thats including walking round for boxing off, mis-sorts, redirections, ect. so would need to be throwing in the items at about 40 items a minute to achieve an overall rate of 26.6. Madness.

Afraid to tell you that in some offices, mine included, managers are counting peoples mail before they allow them to cut off. then they put the figures in to their computer to say whether your prep rate is acceptable...(even though there is no agreed rate) Some days the managers are going round like headless chickens counting mail.

What does not make sense is the fact that they seem to take no account of the fact that some rurals in our office take an hour and a half longer than some town walks. And the town walks don`t take the overweights or tracked ! Not having a go at town walks because I cover both in our office !

When they count your mail they are measuring indoor not outdoor workload.
What they want to be able to say is the reason you are cutting off is that you have not reached acceptable prep rate standards and therefore have taken too long to prep your duty.
It is all typical Royal Mail management bullsh*t but you better get used to it.
When the as yet unseen/agreed/supposed to be achievable standards are published managers will really go to town.
And you know what.....you voted for it so live with it.

Where are the workshops and date in the next 4 weeks?

Where is the word "budget" in the national agreement?

ALL previous delivery spec withdrawn by Royal mail as they want them to be fair

What is the accurate traffic figure?

Can we indentify "Stress" and the cause of it?

All revision activity to involve the CWU at the earliest time

Any previous activity involving exec action has cost the business MORE

All executive action to be reported by your divisional rep.Mr Higson does not want managers with their own policies.

Who knows?....and to be honest it doesn't matter that much what they are.
It's how they will be used that will cause the real damage.
And the "you voted for it" was aimed at the membership in general not you in particular.

I would frankly be amazed if its agreed as it would take no account of weight, average call or attendance rate, the duties average mail profile. Its a DOM trying it on report it or raise a grievance.
