Union Leadership Poll

P.S time for another poll, along the lines of if Big B and Big D stepped down would folks be liklier to stay in the Union, and would those who left rejoin.

IMO, it is not just the leadership that is responsible for this agreement. The PEC accepted it, branches recommended it, CWU officials promoted it, 40,000 members voted for it and over 50,000 members didn't even vote.
For me, changing the top 2 in the union would have no effect. Over 90,000 of our colleagues either accepted or didn't feel strongly enough to vote against it. It was the apathy of the majority (of the membership) that got this agreement accepted, not just poor leadership.
That is why it is such a let down. Give it 3 years and when RM's next offer of £1.50 and a packet of crisps to sell our children into slavery is accepted, we will see just how low we have fallen.

Yes, but it is not only this agreement that the Union have performed badly in. --For nearly ten years now, since B.B
took over the reins the vast majority of agreements have been brough nothing but more job cuts, real cuts in wages, and the most abysmal set of working conditions---shame on them.

Which is precicely why we need change. We get to vote on who holds the top positions, including the PEC. What we need however, is people to stand against those who've let us down, so we can replace them. I don't believe that the problem is the CWU itself. It's a combination of voter apathy, and loss of touch at the top. I have a great deal of respect for my local, and area Reps. They've done a great job despite the situations we've found ourselves in, over the years. We've turned this Union around before, we can do it again! That is. If we want it enough.

I don't know if this question is directed at me, but if it is,no, I will not be standing for unit rep. My rep, who is one of the best in this union, deserves my support. I'm sure if you read my post you'll see what my issues are.

That is the problem.

Then you should ask yourself WHY such a large number of members are too apathetic to vote--it's because they havew no faith in the Union any more--

That depends on what level of the Union you're talking about. I have no intention of going for any of the "top jobs", because I haven't got the neccesary experience at local level, to do a good job. There's no point in replacing formerly good Reps, who've lost touch. With inexperienced replacements, who aren't likley to be able to do a better job. But if you're talking about at local level. Then yes. I will be going for a position.

What we need. Is for experienced local, area, etc.. Reps, to go for the "top jobs". So we've an alternative to vote for, when the time comes.
