How does 6 hour delivery fit with 3pm last letter

Post by gb93 »

Say you want to do a 4 day week, which = 9 hour 45 min day (after wsm revision) and it can be done within office AWD hours

You are in a cdv therefore in reality you have a 6 hour delivery span to make the 9 hour 45 min day work.

Now to hit last letter at 3pm you would have to leave the office at 8.20 (10 min trav 30 min break 6 hours delivery = 3pm)

If you start at 6 and take 20 min break indoor this leaves 2 hours for all prep involved.

Now i know if you start at 6 your finishing time will be 3.45pm, so you will have 45 mins to do packets and return to office after 3pm

With talk of wsm coming in 2 waves (60% and 40%) and God only knows what time you recieve 2nd wave after 10am has been mentioned for some.

Moral of story 4 day weeks dont look very feasable for majority :cry

Have brought up that point in the "does 4 day week = 6 hour delivery" thread.

How do the 1pm specials work with a 3pm finish (remember that it takes about 15 minutes to do each one if you break off to deliver them).

Well there is a move afoot to change to a later time which makes sense with the advent of walk sequencing and the later start times. If there are combined duties there will be extra vehicles for CDV use as well and so they will need fewer lease hire vans. Mind they do say that the devil is in the detail, and the big wigs have left that up to the local reps to sort out.

Why does a 9:45 hour day have to equal a later than 3pm finish or for that matter a 6 hour delivery span?
The physical demands of a 6 hour walking delivery will be too much for almost anyone I know - they will be joining the Marines to get a rest.

There is presently a huge amount of early IPS flats and plastic wrap mail that cannot be sequenced and we are seriously short of people to do that work. Those on longer days can remain on an earlier start so that all other mail is ready to fill the gap between sequence runs and then do a maximum 5 hours outside leaving at 10 and finishing at 2:45 to return to the office and sign out.

I am not sure yet, but imagine that the longer duties will only occur where a 4 day week with a three weekly Saturday cycle is in place. The average is more likely to be a 4 week Saturday off cycle giving 2 x 9 day fortnights with maximum duty length of 8:45 hours. On a shared duty it may suit the driving partner to start later and do packets until 6pm after returning the walking partner to the office at 3pm and taking his meal relief.

I think it's time to start getting imaginative with what can be done - especially to the point of reducing any unnecessary work on a Saturday i.e. by sorting out dtd arrangements with relief staff to be done mon – fri.

Managers will not be able to turn down good ideas just for the hell of it, and the onus is now on us to provide those ideas and extract what benefits we can from an agreement that has threatened to divide us at times but may yet unite us.

Do you think this option could be a goer
Start at 6, 6-9.10 prep, 9.10-10 break, 10-11.15 prep & tie up, 11-15-11-30 travel, 11.30-15.00 deliver letters, 15.00-15.45 packets & return to office
Only problem now can this fit into exsisting office hours, probably not

Good luck to you if you can spread your work over so long, 4 1/2 hours for prep :hmmmm , even allowing for only 4 hours on the prep, you'd be prepping 6000 items and I don't see that happening.

Oh definitely RM are going to fall over themselves to go for this - you are actually spending more time on on prep than delivery! Beware the ides of walk sequencing!

or we could shaft the p/t staff even more by dual prepping and sending them out on 4.5 to 6hr deliveries and f/t staff prepping and maybe doing, well, wow 3.5 hr deliveries

Unfortunately too much has been spoken about 4 day weeks, 10 hr shifts, seems like a bit of a sweetener to ensure this deal went through.
If you have an office that has alot of vacancies there maybe some scope for them, providing you have collections etc to make up the rest of
the hours. As dvbuk55 says, RM are trying to reduce indoor workload, so maybe if you have plenty of VR options in your office, then maybe this
would be a option but, remember the point of this agreement is to remove hours & save, so RM will not be taking a load of people on to
cover Saturdays :d'oh! :d'oh!
