Now we are out of the Union??
Like many on the forum who feel they have been sold out again! by the union i have sadly left..... When the super deal goes belly up and RM go back to the hard ball tactics of bullying etc and a senario results in strike action what would you do then?..... I would feel most uncomfortable in crossing a picket line (mind don't know if there would be one in our office as most of the regular pickets have also left), but on the other hand would not want to give any support to those two jokers Hayes and Ward along with thier merry yes men..... How do you feel about it???

Safety in numbers......there are always local issues to be dealt with . I for one would not leave the union, because of all the shite that is coming our way it will be hard to fight any bullying manager by yourself.Cheetah wrote:Like many on the forum who feel they have been sold out again! by the union i have sadly left..... A leap of faith
I have taken a leap of faith and by definition of that, I cannot retrace my steps – but you can. It will probably surprise you Cheetah, as you are a friend I prize very dearly, that I voted to accept the agreement despite the fact that I will initially lose out financially. Like you I am a 15 year plus man with little to expect outside of this business as far as other opportunities go but I do believe that the opportunity to change the business from our present position exists. My view is held by many of my colleagues who voted both for and against the agreement but none that I know of feel that leaving the CWU will benefit them other than saving less than the price of a pint of premium lager a week.
Unlike you I have the experience of working in an office where the managers are reasonable as opposed to being downright unpleasant and that was one of the deciding factors in the way I considered the agreement proposals. Our DOM has already asked for a group of volunteers to represent different views in the office and to work with him and our rep to bring about changes and revisions that will satisfy the needs and aspirations of us as well as the business. New staff will be joining us over the next few weeks that will alleviate some of the pressure we are currently experiencing and they will be learning the new ways of working with us – so we will all be involved in the experience.
My “yes” vote was cast to ensure security of employment and an opportunity to fairly revise unbalanced workloads. I like the idea of more Saturdays off and possibly fewer, albeit longer, days in each week or fortnight depending on which systems are introduced. We have pretty much decided on mixed rotas to accommodate the needs of different groups of staff but there will always be someone like El Cartero who thinks the world owes him something and is never satisfied.
The threat to leave the union is a loud but empty one – I know you have taken that step but many who said they would will not, just as all the ones who said they would vote “NO” never quite got round to sending their vote off.
You had the courage to stand by your principles – now take a deep breath and be courageous enough to go back and start working to make the agreement work in our favour.
Everyone that resigns from the union in your office makes that despotic twat of a manager of yours smile a little more – you need to wipe that smile off his face.
The times they are a changing.

Re: Now we are out of the Union??
My descision to leave the union was not taken lightly, but the manner in which the leadership dealt with the dispute i felt unforgivable.... As regards my union subs i already donate £3 a week to charities and with the £3 saved i will donate more to personal favourite charities of mine......
Yes Rhino you are right some who say they are going to leave the union are now back tracking, thier choice has no effect on me, my descision was based on my judgement alone and i felt this was my only way to show my feelings, it's easy to say change from within realistically we know this does not happen.....
To me the whole essence of a trade union to me is to represent fairly ALL of it's membership not negotiate a pay rise for some and a pay drop for others ( who will have to embrace the bulk of the un savory changes ), then try to justify it with hollow words like see the big picture, secure full time jobs etc etc. I also took offence with all the reps (which there were many) who changed thier side during the dispute and felt let down by thier actions, in my opinion if a unit reps office are all against a proposal he should always support them not oppose them because the union leadership says they have to!!!!.....
I would support any genuine colleage whos job is under threat but this deal could have been much fairer without necessarily any more money on the table, i genuinely hope i am wrong but see many floors e.g have you seen the prep rates for D2D 6 items (100x6 = 600 leaflets) in 14 minitues tall order IMHO, i believe far too much has been left to chance e.g time out on delivery for the first time left to the discretion of a local agreement ( could be 5 or 6 hours at worst some older/ less able colleagues just could not physically do this!!). Van share at the moment a cycle costs RM circa £250 every 5 years /£1 each week. When 2 of us get a van it will cost at best all in (cost of lease, insurance, maintainance, fuel etc) £150+ which equals £75 per week per postie: they have to generate an extra £74 per van share postman of profit!!!!..... This deal took 4 months to negotiate and the only real thing written in black and white was union involvement and lump sums, my pride would not let me continue to fund people who champion such a poor deal on so many counts....
I realy believe that there needed to be a new aproach by union and management regards working together for the best interests of the buisness our employer, with for example a joint aproach to issues like lobying the regulator /government regardindg the BIGEST injustice of DSA together which would secure all our jobs and provide a better fairer environment for RM to trade and prosper in. I also hope i am wrong regarding the deal making us more efficient and providing a better service to our customers but only time will tell.
I am a massive believer in democracy and fully accept the ballot result, but do not accept the manner in which the union conducted itself hence my descision which is not final and i look forward to the day when i feel the union gives equal priority to all members and the buisness alike, when that happens i will gladly re join but until then i refer you to the question which i started this thread with.....

Everyone that resigns from the union in your office makes that despotic twat of a manager of yours smile a little more – you need to wipe that smile off his face.

So the next time we have a official strike you will be a scab, well I'm glad you have come out of the union, your like a lot of the members who voted no,a spoilt little brat who throw their dummy out of the pram because they hadn't got there own way.It was a democratic vote, get over it.Cheetah wrote:Like many on the forum who feel they have been sold out again! by the union i have sadly left..... Re: Now we are out of the Union??
I never said i would cross the picket line. DO NOT refer to me in such a manner BIG MEN trade insults hiding behind thier key board...... I was merely asking the question!!!!! At least i stand behind my principles as i have always done and always will...... I am NOT like so many who for NO reason changed thier mind on the run up to the ballot i stuck by my descision. Was it possibly because some were afraid to get involved in a proper strike i.e out for weeks not just the odd day here and there!!!! Neither have i voted for something i feel un fair, which i have griped and moaned about on the forum like some!!!!!...... As regards the union i came out of it because they spent more time securing thier own future in talks rather than a fair deal for ALL sections of thier membership and unlike some i'm not prepared to support a leadership i have so heavily critisized..... I fully accept the result of the ballot as you will see if you care to read comments on other threads. Democracy is paramount to me, my descision had nothing to do with the ballot result only the fact the way so many (not all )union officials conducted themselves..... DO NOT forget the union is it's membership if voices are suppressed by the leadership as they were that is NOT democracy if the leadership TELLS YOU which way to vote as they did that is NOT democracy!!!!!!!!! If you wish to make such rude and critical remarks towards people you don't know i suggest your in the wrong forum this is about free speach and constructive debate for adults not insult slinging childrenmountec1 wrote:So the next time we have a official strike you will be a scab, well I'm glad you have come out of the union, your like a lot of the members who voted no,a spoilt little brat who throw their dummy out of the pram because they hadn't got there own way.It was a democratic vote, get over it.Cheetah wrote:Like many on the forum who feel they have been sold out again! by the union i have sadly left..... No, it wasn't all right. You we're both out of line with your last 2 posts. Will everyone PLEASE stop resorting to insults. I don't want to have to start editing, or deleting posts. But if this carries on much longer, I'll have no other option. How was i out of line?????, i was not the one making the insults re. spoilt brat, glad you are out of the union, etc to someone i don't know or have never met . I only pointed out the forum was for free speech and debate, not a place to trade childish insults.....
Yes i do believe i was in a position to critisize the union leadership, as all be it a small amount of £3 i helped pay their wages, It would serve the leadership well to bear this fact in mind, regarding all it's members who are still in it! I believe all the critisizm i gave is justified towards the leadership and stand by it, i have not personally insulted any of them by calling them a brat or the likes!!!!
