Holiday relief - shat on again!

Ok so I've been of of the SPDOs hol relief for ages now and cannot believe how crap the job is getting.

We use to be told where we were the following week quite early on in the week but not anymore. Obviously that was like spoiling us so now we get told Friday at the earliest.
As we dont know when are days off are til the week we are working at the office it's often too late to make plans. Just like working 6 days really

Then when it comes to Saturdays off.... Christ dont even bother asking! If you happen to cover someone whos booked their hol over their Sat off then its like winning the lottery and a long weekend??? Never - thats when that happens. So they 're trying to force you to use your holidays to get a Sat off.

Now because I couldn't fit my hols in last year I've been asked to add some onto this years entitlement. I manged to get some of my requested holidays but I've now been asking all week to use a couple of days in what I thought weren't peak times. And guess what the answer was?? It's not too much to ask is it that i give RM 4 months notice I want a Friday & Saturday off?

They have to give you 7 days notice of the duty you will be doing the following week. Put in a grievance and tell management that you need 7 days notice as you have plans for your days off. This is part of the agreement.

Put in a grievance. You should put in writing what dates you would like. Preferably give them 2 dates. If they refuse and dont offer any alternative dates then bung in a grievance. You are entitled to use your contracted annual leave within the year. If they refuse then they are in breach of contract and could be sued.

If this is true then the whole of my office is being screwed over, the sheet for the following weeks duties go up thursday at the 'very' earliest?, are you saying this is wrong?, I am in similar position covering people of when they are on holiday, differnent duty's most weeks, dont get any help am 32.5 hours, they expect me to no every frame as if It was my duty, you are saying I should have 7 days notice hmm never happened it 3 years working for this joke of a firm.

Well I've rung HR to enquire about this matter and they now say it's a local decision!

As we're classed as holiday cover we should accept that we will get a "suitable" amount of notice to inform us of what duty we'll be on the following week. Obviously my suitable is very different to theirs!
How come we have to all get our holidays booked months in advance and then only get told 48hrs (if we're lucky) whats happening next week??

Will be talking to the union rep tomorrow to see what can be done about (yet another) farcicle situation.

Whenever I am off I like to know who is covering my duty. This last time the name changed 3 times in the week before and was not confirmed until the Saturday before. Glad I don't to leave cover any more.
