help to plan 4 day week required

lads in our workplace looking for help to plan a 4 day week, somewhere on here i read full timers mon-thurs and pt thurs- sat?
breakdown of staff in my office is 63 full time staff, 59 part time - eveny split part timers mostly are 22 1/2 and 30 hours.

PT working fri-sat on 4 day week = 20 hour PT have you any of them to make it work.

Do you think it fair PT should do permanant fri-sat and FT mon-thur if you do this you should have alternate weekends off, i.e. FT mon-thur PT fri-sat, next week PT mon- tue FT wed-sat, then back to week one.

What you have to do is find out the total AWD hours in your office and if people in your place want 4 day weeks you must fit them in within the AWD hours your office has.

P.S. have put on another thread i believe 4 day weeks will meen 6 hour delivery span.

You should have no problem getting the P/Ters to agree to this , just ask billy & dave to come down with the pocket
watch to hypnotize them, maybe the DVD had subliminal messages hidden in it, after all, they got 66% to vote yes

In ours they have rolling days off

4 duty holders work 10 hour days - one week they have mon,tue next week wed,thur, next week fri, sat ( that rolls into the mon,tue of the next week so they get 4 days off)

there are 2 subs both f/t

shimmy tbh you and your boys are getting way ahead of yourselves.
First you need to wait on the OFFICIAL menu of options.
Then you need to talk to your DOM about future mail arrival times.
Then your WHOLE office needs to agree on the best way forward for the office as far as staffing levels and FT/PT ratios are concerned.
Then you can start thinking about attendance patterns.

Should you not wait for your preference excersise,(VR's) ? After that you should have an accurate head count.Check your vacancies and use the "Stoke Agreement" for those vacancies. Some P/T may want full time jobs.Then you negotiate your vacancies and your full/ part time ratio. Remember nationally at present it is 75% Full time and 21% Part time,(will be 75%/25%).

Then you have to do your geo route to make sure your part times walks are prepped BEFORE they come.This is the most important part.Also your call rates will have to be spot on so make sure your A Plus is bang on,(check with your bookroom and your weekly resource meetings are imperative).

Try to liase with your area rep as soon as possible. Also DO NOT work to a budget at present. The members duties have to have no fatigue or stress.If the duties are not acheivable then you have to test them via a live enviroment.Also as part of the agreement you have to make sure your traffic is accurate. This means that flats are counted seperatly and packets seperatly. The workshops will give you guidance on this as previously it was put all together then averaged.This was in-correct.

In theory the walk sorting machines are meant to take out some indoor work.However the more part timers you have it will have an effect on this as their walks have to be prepped.It is in the business's interest to minimise the indoor work.

The workshops will have guidance on The Indoor Workload Tool.Please attend these.

There-fore you could actually have some longer spans,(some say this will protect full time jobs,).However in order to combat the fatigue element,a meal break is a must.

You also need to have duties signed for,with a commitment to "using the tools given for the duty". The car insurance bonds are to be withdrawn.

Be carefull before you do ANYTHING. Form a commitee of your long timers as they will give you some idea in terms of duties. Think of it this way.Make sure that duties start and finish without any gaps.There must be some sort of overlap.

The bonds mentioned are for the Private Cars. OMVs are covered by a separate corporate indemnity.

We where told you would basically work in a team of 3, with 2 ‘in’ work and 1 ‘off’ on the rota below and with geo-route etc, which in real terms will mean 2 to 2.5 maybe 3 walks put together & work with the park & loop system, also taking larger packets that the driver would usually take & of course the extra d2d work


Days Off For Full Timers

Week 1 Monday & Tuesday

Week 2 Wednesday &Thursday

Week 3 Friday & Saturday

Week 4 Monday & Tuesday ….. & so on ???

Hours (39 hour working week)

Break situation =

39 hours into 5 days / 0.40 mins per day / 0.40 x 5 = 3.20 hours break per week 39 hours into 4 days / 0.50 mins per day / 0.50 x 4 = 3.20 hours break per week

Therefore if you are on a 4 day week your entitled to a 0.50 min paid break each day

39 divided into 4 = 9.45 a day, take off your 50 minute break = 8.55 hours a day

Week 1 Wednesday 06.30 - 16.15
Thursday 06.30 - 16.15
Friday 06.30 - 16.15
Saturday 06.30 - 16.15

Week 2 Monday 06.30 - 16.15
Tuesday 06.30 - 16.15

If they want "Parts of the new agreement",please let them take these parts " 1 in 4 Saturdays off","Total withdrawal of private cars","renewal of call rates and participation in workshops" "Stress,fatigue,motivation".
Also have the WSM's been introduced? If not..can we have our £200 please?....and the hits just keep on comin'.............
