HI please read. urgent

I have been employed for the past two weeks on a part time basis (25hrs/week). on the interview the manager said that my walks will be prepped in for me, except for the odd missorts. i will just bundle it bag it up and leave BUT, for the past 1 and half week i was put on A DIFFERENT walk EVERYDAY so you could imagine that i will finish later than scheduled.

on some days they are not even prepped completely and the driver yanks me for being late and the managers arejust oblivious to it.

is it standard to have different walks everyday? i dont even mind changing walks once a week, but daily there must be something going on.

seems like i am being shafted.

i will go in tomorrow with all guns blazing.

Unfortunately Maddar, because you are the new guy in the office you will be a reserve, which means being shat on on a regular basis. If you don't know what a reserve is, well basically you are used to cover duties that are vacant due to sickness/holiday, which means that you can look forward to learning lots of duties for a single day and then not seeing them again for about a year or two. Welcome to RM.

my heart goes out to you.....it is called being shafted and there is not much you can do about it.

i am a duty holder and get shafted quite a bit during the summer.

you could have many years of this.
just work your hours, dont feel intimidated, it takes a while to build up technique.

I'm a reserve, had a run of 25 different walks in a row on various sections. It can get rather stressful at times being pushed from pillar to post.
Sadly a reserve in my office is just a second class citizen.

Don't panic it will get easier. If you are lucky you may get kept on a walk for a few weeks even months if someone is off long term sick. Being a reserve is the pits thats for sure but we have all been through it... just grit ya teeth and hang in there

The reserves in my office have a habit of leaving mail behind because they "can't cope" with the same workload as regulars. Nothing happens to them, regulars just have to pick up and deal with the crap they left so it's not all bad

and tell your driver to go f**k himself the w****r,if your bags aren't in the bag boxes when you get there sit on the side of the road and wait,cut off when your times up and tell the manager the reason was you were waiting for your bags,if your office is same as the rest all the knobheads going in early and getting there bags out early makes you look slow,and it really pisses me off when a dickhead driver comes round asking how long your bags are gonna be and your still throwing out mech bundles!!!

As a new starter, you should be on ONE walk for TWELVE weeks. You should have a workplace coach.

It's Royal Mail's OWN policy that they want to keep new starters on ONE duty for 12 weeks to lessen the turnover of new starters. They found that by keeping them on the same duty, they were more likely to stay with the business and therefore they wouldn't have to fork out for advertising and interviewing again.

It's in their best interests to keep you on the same duty, bollocks to business needs.

Really winds me up this does.

SO i have the right to question them why i am not being put on the same walk for 12 weeks? or that isnt the case anymore? is there any documentation supporting this?

It's standard procedure to get a walk for a set period,as has been said,they don't want people walking out for getting f****d about.My 13 week period actually lasted 2 years!

All new starts in my DO get a walk for 13 weeks or longer.Try sending a PM to an admin,they should be able to hunt down the wording on it.

All new starts in my office get kicked out the door on thier own after spending 3 days delivering the training officers d2ds (he does half the offices d2ds, well at least he takes the money for them!)

ask your office coach about walks you should be doing i seem to recall that you should be on one walk for a period of time to get you used to the job.
