It only took a day!!!!!!

Unit Rep here and it was my day off
Usual DOM was suspended last week(2nd time) for not carrying out his duty properly and very little absorbing going on.

Phone starts ringing from 8 onwards as new manager bringing in half our flex(1st time) due to a heavy mailing(NHS) loads of moans about the flexing and them not getting paid OT if they clear, starts to get a bit stupid down the phone to various members try telling them just to do the job properly and not to leave theselves open for any accusations and to give a valid reason for not flexing.
I ring the gaffers up to find out the problem and apparantly they have had it from above to stop OT like booking over and nobody in working their days off and they said people working their half hour flex will get it back when it suits Royal Mail.Talk about upsetting the natives after the deal is just done.

Obviously will be straight in the office tomorrow putting them straight about the flexing but I dont know if I can put up with this s**t on a daily basis,only did the reps job so there was a bit of fairness in the office but my days off are treasured days as I spend it all day with my daughter 3 yr old.

It's a thankless task at times, stick with it, believe it or not you can make a difference and make things in the office better.

Use your area rep as often as needed, that's why he's there.

Like you say if they do the job properly management cannot touch them, and you only have to work the hours you are contracted to do.

It must be a bummer getting phone calls on your day off but i suppose it comes with the territory!! stick in there with the reps job it probably is a thankless task but no representation in your office will give management the green light to take the piss.

i am a rep and it is a thank less task, staff only want help when it suits them. But thats how it is, a rep is only as good as his members who back him. But not easy when members ant to cut corners to make a extra few minutes, and when it goes wrong they want the rep to get them off. But life without reps could be a lot worse who wants no sennority and blue eyes or brown eyes when it comes to picking duties.
