Rigged Ballot..?

Post by PostieWithTheMostie! »

RM knew the outcome weeks ago, ballot date put back..? Whats the chance of it being rigged & getting the ballot Re-Voted..? Especially if people still haven't received their ballot papers, then surely this result must be deemed null & void..

It looks very dodgy to me, every delivery person knew this was a bad deal, so why was it such a big yes vote? Plus my boss certainly seemed to thing it was a done deal!

I remember that after the 2000 way forward ballot was (allegedly) rigged, and there was an emergency motion at conference in 2001, there also followed a court case brought by 2 members who had not received ballot papers, and the CWU got taken to task for failing to keep accurate membership records as this was the supposed reason that not everyone had received papers.

I have some more details about this court case but they are in my black hole of "things that may be handy one day" so bear with me!

The ballot was fair. The reason for the extension was threefold, 15000 ballot papers were delayed in the revenue protection area in East London mail centre and was released and were meant for the South West Region and Wales region. Plus the delays due to the fact that flights were cancelled meaning that all Royal mail work had to go by road. Lastly some reported recieving the DVD but not the ballot paper.

The ballot is not covered by employment legislation , it was a consultative ballot. It was conducted by independent scuritneers who are granted a lience to perform ballots and who are impartial and fair. It is not against the rules to count ballot papers as they come in, it cant be rigged as the numbers on the ballot papers are marked to regions and the cwu cannot introduce new ballot papers.

So whilst you can have all the conspiracies theories you like but the truth is that in a 54% turn out a the members decided on a 2 to 1 basis to endorse the agreement.

Why ? Well the reality is that some of you believe that this site inflences how the wider membership will vote . It does not. What inflences the members in the main is what their Local rep , their area rep and their Branch recommends. Equally they believe in what CWU HQs have stated.

Equally lets be honest where did a no vote lead to ? Further negoatiaions well how many times can you cut a cake before it is runined ? Plus lets be honest the reality is that Royal Mail would not have stood still and would have introduce some of their plans without agreement.

Plus you state most people in deliveries vote no , well that is rubbish.

Remember these are facts there are 99 000 FTEs in Delervies and only 79753 got any door to door money.

The average door to door was 2.1 items per week with an average payment of £12.42

Not every postman got £12 early shift payment , in fact the majority did not some got £6 and some got dawn shift which is not effected and some including the majority of part timers did not get anything.

The average amount of delivery points per walk is 500 . ( you would not think so but it is remember there is only 28 millon addresses including firms, shops etc.)

Royal Mail are now paying for door to door twice , once in return for hours remaining in an office as it is now in measured workload and secondly in regards to the supplement. plus if and when the product increases we have a review which can mean extra money. In any case once it gets to 6 Royal Mail intend to automate door to door in one seleve meaning one item.

.

But you won't stop those conspiracy theorists harping on.
I wonder if those same C-T'ers were the kids who could never take being beaten at games, and always cried "cheat" when things didn't go thier way.. :hmmmm

Clearly some DOMs knew how to wind up the gullible too..

This site has never had any influence on the outcome of ballots or the changes made by the CWU or RM and it frequently gets it wrong, particularly in its polls which I've always said are meaningless. Its just a site at the end of the day, somewhere to grumble and most of the time thats all it is, just grumbles. It has no weight at all in the real world. People on here harp on about democratic votes but when it doesn't go their way, all of a sudden its rigged.

Too much read into doom and gloom threads with no substance to back them up other than opinion and some of you get carried away with it all. If people don't vote, thats THEIR choice, as much as its your choice to vote. If there really was a groundswell against the deal, don't you think there would have been a resounding NO even on a low turnout? RMC doesn't reflect the vast majority in any shape or form but it suits those who choose to use it, including political activists who like to come on here and stir you into a frenzy for their own ends.

Rigged ballot? No just bad losers. Ward gave you the reasons why you should vote yes and like the predictions about the outcome, predictions about a mass exodus from the union will also be wrong. What people say on here has little to do with what they do outside and chances are, many who used this site also voted yes but won't admit that. In the end, you have no idea who you're talking to on here or whether statements made by others are true and its a foolish man that reads it as gospel. If you're gutted you only have yourself to blame on that.

My footer quote has said that for a long time.
Don't believe everything you're told in the rest room

Would RM and CWU be quite happy with a re-vote? with everyone getting their ballot papers on time and making sure some people actualy get them?

i agree that this site doesn't influence opinion,I'm not daft, but thats some amount of shite you've quoted with the figures there.I've yet to see point one of a d2d under my frame!
I didn't qualify for ess yet I'm still down by at least 30 a week due to constantly doing 3 d2d a week, like the rest of my office. We're effectively being punished for the inefficiency of others.

And 500 calls?

Please.Maybe 5 years ago.Not one duty in my office is below 600,and that's around 90 duties.

Can I come work in your vision of a DO?

Well your doing above the average in terms of delivery points. But lets examine your issue you recieve 3 items per week minus your annual leave and minus the chrismas weeks including between the eves, plus any sick leave now thats appoxmately leaves 43 weeks at £30 x 43 = £1290 against the supplement which is £20.60 x 52 weeks which equals £1071.20 so your loss is £218.80 per year totalling £4.20 per week. The pay rise is worth 2% which is over what you were going to lose on door to door and next year the supplement goes up with the year two pay rise.

Plus you have door to door in workload you get to keep more hours in your office and you also get better attendances.

Now if you are a part timer when you have your walk sequencing revison you will get an increase in your hourly rate over an above what a full timer gets ie a 20 hour contact will get £5.94 rise and a 30 hour contract will get £6.60.

The union has said some will lose from this deal and thats always differcult but it is for the greater good with the changes we face which may stun some when they see the level of change on its way and then some may understand the reasons why the union did this deal.
