How will the deal affect me?

Hi,

I've been with Royal Mail for a short time now, a couple of months. I work a part-time 25 hour contract (which will be reviewed after 6 months, summer time.)

I use a trolley as my round is just 10 minutes away from the office, and walk to and back from the round.

My hours are 9-2, however due to the size of the round, I come in at 8am (unpaid overtime), so I am able to sort out the fitting and band up before I leave). I have been on the same round since I started at the company, bar a few days of lapsing.

Are there any changes that I should be aware of that may affect my current position.

you come in at 8, an hour a day unpaid, after the yes vote, it will be most probably 2 to 3 hours,

Dont come in early if you cant complete by the end of your duty its not your problem its the managers let him earn his pay and sort it out why hasn't the rep done anything about it

Honestly, I don't mind coming in a little early to sort out my fitting.

Because I'm part time my fitting is supposed to be sorted before I come in, but today (like many other days), my fitting was only around 50% complete so it took me a good hour to get it sorted before I could band up.

So if I did come in at 9am (my proper hours), then I would be getting out of the office very late and therefore going well over my hours, which they wouldn't pay me for. They try to get away with not paying for overtime, the CWU guy today had an argument with a manager who was refusing to pay overtime for a number of staff, who would being going over there hours because today was a very heavy day (NHS letters - upto 5/6 per house).

The main problem is the managers simply overuling and ignoring our CWU rep, who is a very good guy and tries his damn hardest to help us.

they are right mate, 1stly stop coming in early it wont do the job any favours mate, if you worked in tescos would you sit on the till an hour early each day and start serving people for free?

overtime is not compulsery just tell the manager you dont want overtime ask for inscruction dont work past your time unless he agrees to pay you if you get get no help speak to your branch or take out a greivance dont be bullied and if you get no joy go higher

I'll have a proper formal chat with the CWU guy and tell him my issues. If nothing comes of it I'll go higher up, ideally above the office management.

Before you go out tell your DOM you can't complete the round in time, and let him know how much you will be leaving, this way he has to get someone to complete the round for you, don't let him bully you into doing it all you can't get into trouble for just working your hours.

just think all them 1 hours youve been coming in early think how much money youve lost start on time bring it back dont be scared of the little hitlers there only posties who coudnt do the job

How can the Rep help people if they wont help themselves, meaning people playing into managements hands. Come in on time, do your work , have your break and work your hours, end of. If it is heavy and you can`t complete in your time, not your problem , it is the managers

All I get from management is "we're short staffed, we don't have enough people".

One major issue I had was about 1 month ago.

I was delivering around 3 miles away from the office as cover, I got dropped off and all was fine, I delivered post and packets fine... it was around 12:30 on the Saturday and to walk back would have taken me around 1 hour, by that time the office would be closed.

I phoned the office manager, who told me that there were no van drivers to bring me back as the office had closed, to walk my trolley home and to lock it up with a SPECIAL DELIVERY inside and to bring in back in on the Monday. (a sackable offence I was told afterwards by the CWU guy)

LUCKILY, as I was walking back around 2 minutes later, a van driver went past, pulled up and gave me a lift back to the office, on the way back I saw about 10 vans and the office was still open.

I told a number of people in the office who were shocked by what the manager had said, there was no reason for him to say such a thing to a new employee who would have taken his word.

oh if it was that easy !!! cut off etc etc..heard it all before but honestly how many actually do it..most come in early...most run...most dont take breaks.. worst of all most work lots of unpaid hours... Me included !! its Fukcing insane really

get told "we`ve never had a problem with others on this walk" "you must speed up on prep" etc etc more bullshite they`ve never has a problem with others on the walk because others are t0o scared to speak up about it..plus fellow posties brag about how fast they are so tends to make one feel rather usless...oh and prep in time have you seen the amount of bloody mail lately !!! this firm is at total nightmare to work for...if only the workers stuck together

FFS people!!!!! You have to start coming in on time, working your hours, taking your break and cutting off if you haven't completed, of course you're not going to be as quick as others on that job if you only do it once in a blue moon, ask for more prep time or you may have to cut off as you have something important to do after your shift, you don't have to tell them what, childcare is always a top bargaining tool but the crux is.....stop working for nothing, stop running round and stop going over, even if they will pay you, for the next 6 months we all need to work to rule, if it means cutting off then so be it, you can't be persecuted for doing your contracetd job can you.........stand up to the bully boys, take no s**t and when they argue with you just smile and say.......sorry, I can't do it, it's feels magical :)
