ARE WE DOWNHEARTED?
So the vote went the way it was expected to do and despite the effort to get a no vote it wasn't to be.
Are we downhearted though? Well of course we are a little bit, but tomorrow is another day, the agreement has been ratified and so we have to work within the constraints and limitations of the words in that agreement.
What are the options? Well according to the CWU interpretation of the agreement, the world is our oyster and all things are possible and so those who represent us at local level must set up groups to apply the agreement to the members advantage wherever and whenever possible. Where there is doubt, sow even more, make sure that every i is dotted and every t crossed in applying the agreement in the spirit and with the trust intended as per the CWU.
There is obviously going to be teething troubles and so those who take your money to sort the problems out must be called upon every single time there is a wavering on the part of RM for clarification of the wording of the agreement. For example where it says no full time duty should start after 7 am, make sure that is applied whether or not it fits the scheme of things. There are very many able, intelligent, diligent and selfless reps in hundreds of units and they should have every assistance from the membership in making sure the agreement is strictly adhered to.
I have been a member of a union for 37 years and from tomorrow I will cease to be so. That is the saddest day for me and an indictment of the level of support the union deserve in my own opinion. I wouldn't advocate that is the course of action for others to take but for me it is a matter of conscience.

Yes, and no.
I'll pick the bones out of the agreement and get the best thing for my office.

Re: ARE WE DOWNHEARTED?
Indeed dvb,the union has bigged up this agreement for 6 weeks now and it is time to see if they can perform the magic tricks they have promised the membership.
The pressure is now well and truly on the area and divisional reps to show the membership that they were right all along.
Every member should have a copy of their area reps number.....stick it on speed dial and lets see if they are up to the job.

Re: ARE WE DOWNHEARTED?
remember this post dv, well i was nearly right, still puzzled as to where all those 95,000 delivery posties are?
oggie wrote
it will not matter, the way it has been designed you just have to do the maths, there are 25000 delivery posties who will be better off with this supplement, just that alone will divide the deliveries vote, and then you have all the other fuctions which are not affected by the d2d issue.
i reckon a 68% yes vote
dvbuk55 wrote
Well mystic Meg where did that figure of 25,000 postmen come from - deduct that though from the 95, 000 delivery postmen and you get a 2 to 1 against - it could be 68% but it won't be a YES vote.

Re: ARE WE DOWNHEARTED?
TBH ft, we already know the answer to that one. My suggestion would be that the groundswell of change needs to start at grass roots level on the shop floor, cut out the middlemen and go straight to the top at HQ and simply refuse to accept anything but the highest authority. Let HQ know that it is really the local Reps who drive the bus and the passengers are not really necessary. There may even be savings in trimming down the hierarchy and there may be a less biased view on protecting the few with the sweat of the many.fishtank wrote:Indeed dvb,the union has bigged up this agreement for 6 weeks now and it is time to see if they can perform the magic tricks they have promised the membership.

As a unit rep I am going to be dedicated to making myself a pain in the ass to the DIM and line tossers.
I will go over their stupid heads and got to HQ or wherever to stir em up!
Always be one step ahead, play their game but be wiser. Revenge is sweet.

Thats not quite correct
Check the exact words!!!
As part of the operational transformation the vast majority of full time delivery duties will start no later than 0700.

Re: ARE WE DOWNHEARTED?
Oh dear are we saying that the wording is a bit wishy washy here and that the majority really means as many as RM feel like or is the CWU going to have some input - do you think the majority is a local, area or national figure or really just a notional figure that looks good but means nothing. I have a feeling we are going to see a lot more of this. But really I was basing my theory on the Appendix to the Delivery Model where only 1 of the examples actually started before 7, none started at 7 and THE VAST MAJORITY started at 0715!!!!! Of course this hasn't been agreed.......................Big Daz wrote:dvbuk55 wrote: For example where it says no full time duty should start after 7 am, make sure that is applied whether or not it fits the scheme of things. quote]

Re: ARE WE DOWNHEARTED?
Yes we can thumb the Agreement in their faces and say 'look what it says here' and they will say 'ah yes it says most, it's an aim, we intend, should be, could be but it doesn't say must be or will be. So shut up and get back to work you donkey.'
That's a bit of a problem.
