Cycle Helmets

Is there a 2008 cycle helmet agreement ?
Is the 2003 cycle helmet agreement still inforce ?
Do you have to wear a helmet while you are scooting on the pavement ?
Please,please , please can you clear this once and for all ,so i can do my job without having to keep looking over my shoulder

You wear your helmet if you're on the bike at all, it's better not to give them any ammunition to take you down the conduct code.

If by "scooting" you mean standing on one pedal then I would advise against it - that way lies a broken ankle, which would arguably be your fault for misuse of the equipment!

Have seen the pedals broken off often enough to know that they can and do snap if all your weight is on one pedal only.

Summat else as well- when it is red hot, like today- the helmet makes your head sweat twice as much and after 3 hours I felt like I was going to pass out so ditched the bloody thing. I know they are supposed to be for "health and safety" but what about when wearing them affects your health? As far as I am concerned, bycycle helmets are for people who like to ride bikes in their leisure time or as a sport, where you are continuously cycling, and as such get some air movement through the gaps in the helmet. Not for folk like us who are continuously stopping and starting, getting on and off the bike every few seconds to walk up paths etc. to deliver mail. The damn things are like wearing a mini-oven on your head. I know this problem doesn't rear its head too often due to our wonderful climate in the UK, but still- I don't want my brains frying!

I don`t use a bike on delivery, but I do a fair bit of it in my spare time.

Also, a helmet may save your brain if you lose your balance and fall off, but not so likely if youre hit by a bus, obviously.

It`s a contentious issue, but I only really wear my helmet when I`m out on the MTB, rarely when I`m wheeling down to the shop.

Just my opinion, I`m sure others will think differently.

Do all posties who object to wearing them really can't see the sense or are they just being awkward and don't like being told what to do, personally i believe in wearing it while working, if i get hot i drink more or i take it off and have a rest then continue with helmet on, it isn't a problem, there are too many people in our business that think they can do what they like and our bosses are too soft to keep insisting, basically because they would be taken down the harrassment route. Just get on with the job, get a life and earn your money.

You are very fortunate to be able to drink regularly and take rests on your delivery ...assuming that you have ever done one. Your opening gambit wasn't particularly impressive.
