BBQ Summer

In veiw of recen hot weather and predictions of a BBQ summer,and now a yes vote to the new agreement.
We are going to start later and work later and do bigger walks during the hottest period of the day.

Many of us expirenced Horrendous and unsafe working conditions during the Extreme Weather in Jan with ice and snow,and RM actions in many offices were criminal in sending people out in such dangerous conditions.

The CWU now appear to be very concerned with health and safety.

I beg the CWU to put together a senisble plan for the summer if we have extreme heat,not only could some be suffering from effects of heat but stress ,by no being able to finnish their delivery on time due to the Extreme Heat.
Also taking on extra fluid will mean more toilet stops.

Lets get a sensible action plan now before it hits us ,assuming the Health and Saftey Serious
I understand official safety for hot weather is not to go out in the sun at the hottest time of the day,but obvious this does not apply to RM staff as RM are doing the exact opposite to the official guide lines.

since the way fwd agreement ,sdd and later and later starts the british summers havent been scorchers so it is the law of averages that potentially it could be a scorcher.if i was doing delivery with absorbtion ,being out at the hottest time of the day i personally would be very worried.hopefully it will not take a serious incident for there to be a review of delivery practice during exceptionally hot weather.surely something should be in place if a heatwave arrives?

Like Spanish postmen,Australian postmen do not deliver during the hottest part of the day in the summer months.
And the pay level is just over 40,000Aus dollars or around about £25,000 basic.

Those who work in hot areas are used to the weather and will take the relevent precautions unlike us lot over here who see the sun and tend to put on baby oil to get a good tan (ie. burnt bright red).

holmsey, its certainly not over dramatic, personally I hate working in hot weather, and begin to suffer from the heat as soon as temperatures get into double figures. Despite last year being much of a washout I remember one day where I felt really ill due to the heat, near the end of my walk(which by the way is all hills and steps) I really think there should be a clear H&S plan for hot weather.

Actually aussie posties are on between $34,087 - $40,670 (full time rates)
they start around 06:30

Casuals earn between $15-20 per hour based on 15-40 hours per week (depends on location)

Full-Time positions work 36 hours 45 mins per week while part-time positions mostly consist of approximately 15-25 hours per week.

its all very simular, except they have some motorcycle deliverys

I suffer from prickley heat, so have to wear factor 50 and cover up, so I'm not looking forward to the hot summer at all

I love the summer. But we should actually have some sort of sun creams supplied to us. Not that I would use them as I love my shorts on to get a wee bit of colour in my milk bottles. But some ppl do burn.

I have had heat stroke in this country whilst working on a farm.

It was not very nice and involved falling over a lot ,crossing a main road ,passing out on a sleeper bridge and falling into a river ,true Monty Python style.I survived but would not recommend it.

See, I'm like that with hats, just can't wear them, even the biggest size won't go on my head cos I'm too hairy (that's just my head btw) I don't go out with hairy legs in the summer either

But if you live in a country that is constantly hot then you are used to it surely,a lot of you from up north call us Londoners southern softies when the cold weather comes.
Yes it's all tounge in cheek but tbf it's true,we are not used to extreme weather conditions like you lot up north,just look at footie matches in the winter,you nutters are on the terraces in shirts ffs.

So to say an Aussie does it,so us Brits can do it is bollox!
