Realise that things may change with the agreement having been voted in but can anyone point me in the right direction where it says that your day off will be the duties day off.
We have a manager who has done the duty sheet for next week and 3 part timers days off are monday, the monday holiday. The duties they are on have a different day off. 2 are tuesday which would be an extra long weekend for them
and the other is the saturday. If someone could tell me where I could find out in black and white
what the proper method is then I would have great fun in printing it out and
giving the PTers a copy each plus another copy that would be left on the managers desk.

It's quite simple...........if you have a duty you have a rolling day off, if you are a floater (covering 5 duties) you have a rolling day off, if you are a reserve you get allocated a day off to suit the business needs of the unit, when it's a bank holiday most reserves unless they have requested otherwise will be allocated the bank holiday as their day off, of course they will get a day off in lieu to use later in the year as recompense. I've been a reserve for 2 years and every bank holiday week I get the bank holiday as my day off, I end up with 36 or 37 days leave because of this which I see as an advantage but some may see it differently but that's the answer to your question :)
In our office, if you are a reserve and say for instance the guy/girl on Town 8 duty was off for 3 weeks, then you would get their days off. So if their day off this week was friday then the reserve covering Town 8 gets friday off. Next week it would be Saturday and therefore they would they would get the monday holiday plus the saturday. It is just our manager trying his luck to get duties covered by picking on part timers who dont know better.
This is why I was looking for something to print out as the manager is doing wrong and it would be nice to point this out :)

As I say if you are a reserve you are given a day off to suit the needs of the business unit, on non bank hol weeks it makes sense you get the day off for the job you're covering but on bank holiday weeks it's more difficult to cover days off so as the business unit needs I'm afriad :)
What happens to the floater in your little world sexy legs.
If a reserve is doing a duty next week and the duty day off is thursday but they are told to take monday as their day off, when they are at work on the thursday (which is the duty day off) what does the floater do who is supposed to cover the duty that day.
This ain't no baseball game, you get only one chance and you blew it.

That may happen in your office and it may be that you enjoy the extra days but it is WRONG. There is an agreement stating that the duty's day off is the day off for whoever is covering that duty. This is why I opened this thread, to find the agreement and get a print out.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been. My BFF Clash The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.
I'm not management, I'm a reserve, and I'm merely explaining how it works in my office, so I'm not talking bollox Postie.........unlike yourself! I'm telling you how it works in my office, if that's wrong then my office is run incorrectly but as a reserve I normally end up with 5 different duties a week, and if I need a certain day off I ask the guy who organises the duty rota and he normally obliges.....that's how it works in my office!
if like the others who will have 2 days of the week of the bank holiday then i'm afraid your being discriminated against you are entitled to a day of if yours falls on the monday you do not have to take a day in lieu
your entitled to take it if posible the next day so you will have a long weekend so to speak do not let them tell you otherwise

the floater will do the duty and the reserve becomes exactly that, a "reserve" so if anyone goes sick or has a day off booked then the reserve will do something like that. Reserves are last in the pecking order and always get the short straw but its the way it is, we have all been there things get easier once you get seniority. Its like when you start out as a footballer you always end up with the crappy jobs like cleaning boots. Its the way of the world
im a reserve and i get a rotational day off each week but if i was put on the same duty all week i would have that duties day off then go back to normal week after.so if say you where given days off to suit the business needs you may well never end up having a long weekend aka sat/mon
