If only those who leave the union leave behind all the advantages gained by the union over the years. Hand back your paid holidays, hand back your sick pay, hand back your payrise, hand back your lump sums, hand back your representation at interviews, hand back your health and safety, hand back your rights under the ER act, hand back your democratic right to VOTE on chnage. PS don't forget to doff your hat to the nice managers who will obviously have YOUR interest at heart in the long run!

Oh do stop you old fool. Theyve somehow managed to agree with RM and fool you union members to vote for extra work AND a pay cut.pcb wrote:If only those who leave the union leave behind all the advantages gained by the union over the years. To quote Gordon Brown 'Get real'. Those two idiots running the union should be run out of town. Get someone in with half a brain, and working for the postmen and women and people may rejoin the union again. Until then, get out

Royal Mail employment contract does answer this.hullwyke wrote:what happens to the non union members that dont get a chance to vote and dont agree is that just classed as a yes vote ? by some idiots who just see the £400 carrot dangled in front of them .
Basically RM is an employer that operates their contracts of work on collective agreements. The bodies that they consult in regard to these collective agreements are the CWU and CMA.
Both Unions operate under a democratic rule of only their paying members are eligible to vote on any agreement they present to their members.
So under the rule of collective agreements only Union members get to vote on it changes, but non union members contracts are changed tin line with that collective agreement.

Health and Safety is a right, not just given from the Union, yes they may shout and rant a bit more than an individual, but if there is an issue, there are government bodies that can help.pcb wrote:If only those who leave the union leave behind all the advantages gained by the union over the years. How many of you know where the Employers Liability Insurance Certificate is displayed in your workplace? And is it valid!
Don't blow a trumpet that isn't all yours to blow!!!!As an employer, you are legally responsible for the safety and health of your employees when they are on the job. If they feel that you are responsible for an injury they have suffered at work, or become ill because of dangerous conditions they were exposed to in the workplace, your employees may seek compensation from you. With this in mind, the Employers’ Liability (Compulsory Insurance Act of 1969 requires that you have least £5 million of insurance cover against any claims they may file.

Re: non union members
It was the unionist movement that gained all these rights we so rightly deserve, without the sacrifice over many years we could still be totally dictated to by management without any recourse or consultation. History shows us that a workforce prepared to stand up for itself needs to have a voice and the union is that voice. So this time we feel that the voice has let us down, but consider what could have happened if there was no union at all!!
Royal mails business plan is severely flawed and I think is doomed to failure in its present format, the union will protect us when things begin to go wrong even if it is only by using the conduct code/MTSF procedures to ensure no one is unfairly victimized and forced from the job.
We have lost this battle and it is very hard to swallow, but we can voice our concerns and attempt to salvage some semblance of service from this diabolical mess.
Members should show strength and ensure that when the office revisions start things are done by the book and management are not allowed to slash services in the name of cost savings. I see this as an opportunity to have a meaningful say in the new delivery structures, it will take a lot of work, most of it unpaid, to plan things properly. GET INVOLVED LOCALLY, that is what they want and we should give them our input. We know the best way of doing things, its time to stand up and say just how things should be done.
Many changes recently have been enforced as a result of managements knee jerk reaction to local budget cuts and were not planned properly. This must not be allowed to happen this time, if your office revision goes ahead and you do not have any influence on the new delivery structures you have not done enough and deserve all that you get.
RANT over..I think its time to hide for a while now....
