75% Full time 25% Part time

Post by wdo1256 »

I saw that part of the agreement was that the ratio of full time staff to part time was going to be 75% fulltime to 25% part time.

In my D.O. with buy downs, evr, and full timers leaving we are nearer 68% - 32%. The DOM has said that because we are operating at the present rate we are not going up to 75% full timers. Does the agreement cover seperate officies or is it a general figure.

I feel that the reduced rate of full timers will impact on our choice's of future shift patterns.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Cheers WDO1256

It's a National figure....and it's an aim......by 2013.......and at the moment it's 79/21......so it's actually a reduction overall. :cuppa

The Agreement states.
That the operational transformation programme and associated workplan support the nationally planned staffing mix of around 75 percent full time/25 per cent part time.
good times, bad times you know I've had my share

To be fair though - most European postal services that have been through this process of automation have a much higher ratio of part timers.
I think the only exception may be the French but they know how to strike.
No 2 hr shift on the picket line between 5am and 7am for them.
Vive la France!

maybe but you cant really do straight comparisons
for example when i worked in Dresden the mail for flats was all left in mail boxes on the ground floor
in Melbourne we all had mailboxes at the end of the driveway,so all these things make a difference

75% full time 25% part time???????????? Thats a joke.

In my DO we have 20% full time 80% part time. Been told the 75 - 25% is a national figure and we not likely to get an increase

This is true. In most countries the idea of a postie walking up several flights of stairs carrying a heavy bag of mail is laughable.
I guess from your posts you do/did tenement flats? Hopefully with the methods revisions we will be able to take some of the weight off the posties shoulder and get everyone to stick to the 5kg weight limit. It would be a massive improvement on the s**t that goes on now.

If your part time is more then full time your indoor work will be a lot more from the Indoor Workload Tool workshops due to take place. The PT walks are meant to be prepped for them, then your own walk. You need to get your area rep involved asap.

biggest problem with part time is defining the hours, we have several on more than 25 hrs which our DOM does not recognised as part time and so his targeted revisions and savings on hours ignore part time workers below 40hrs but more than 25. We are argueing that we have 3 on 32 hrs and 1 on 25 hrs y(total of 4 part timers) yet he is only counting the 25hr one as part time. His future planning involves a futher 8 on 25hr contracts completely ignoring the ones on 32 hrs, in dispute over this and RM seem to support the CWU stance which is a massive shift in a relationship at senior level but not at local.
