Im pt on a 20 hr contract so get the usual rubbish of some weeks getting just the 20hrs and then others with 35+ hrs! Been working at Royal Mail since just before Christmas so when I started I was finishing at 5 or 6 sometimes! Stayed on the same walked for about 4 months one of the bigger ones in the office! Then 1 week I get to the office to be told that im on a walk thats 20 miles away! The walk is ridiculous because it's impossible without being shown it, as it's a little coastal village town! Get to the post office for the 2 other regulars to look at me and say are u being trained today! Explain that i've just been sent down here! They ring the office for the manager to tell them that they thought someone would be there to train me! Total lie, I just spoke to the same manager who tried to print a map out for me but he couldnt get the printer to work, you cant make this stuff up! Anyways struggle with the round getting lost and not finding half the houses! Used my own car to get there aswell! Got sent down there the following week aswell still couldnt find some of the houses! Then get put back on normal round!

Then last week I lost my head! Get put on another new round! Starting at 8 instead of 7! Finish prepping by 11 as the round is bundled in a certain way and has to be delivered in a special way with certain lamposts being used as it uses a hct! blah blah blah! Anyways finish on mon at 3pm and get picked up! Come in on wed refuse to do it all as still no help with prep! First time i've ever done this! leave 45 mins worth and finish at 2 as I volunteer in a school to coach kids football at 3.30 as I plan to return to uni for a yr to do a pgce and need to do this for my application! Ring the office to get picked up and no ones available luckily a manager is randomly going past and picks me up! Do the same on Thur and again no one available to pick me up so I had to walk back to the office with the hct or I would be late for school! Fri exact same thing happens leave 2 answerphone messages and ring 6 times without reply! I've had enough at this point! Trolleys empty so lock it up at the lampost and walk back to the office! Get to the gate were the manager has just finished and I explain i've left the trolley as ive just waited 35 mins trying to get through! His reply was you have to go and get the trolley! ha ha! I said no and walked off! Did the full round the next day as I finished prepping by 10 still last out the office though and get picked up o.k! Then I look at the rota to see what duties im on for next week as ours only go up on a sat! So we have no time to sort out stuff for the following week! The rota says mc (mail centre) ask one of the managers what time I will be working he didnt know and the manager who sorted the rota out had gone home, so nobaody to ask! I then had to ring up at 9am this morning to aks what hrs im doing, only to be told im working 4pm til 8pm mon to fri! Great notice! Had enough of getting treated like a mug to be honest!

I only took the job as the 20hrs would give me time to volunteer in school and do my coaching qualifications and observe classes etc and I dont mind doing a bit of overtime if I dont have anything on in school ! What if i had kids etc! How can anyone expect someone to be told on mon at 9am that your working 4pm to 8pm this week! When I first started the job I did think christ everyones moaning about everything it's a job at the end of the day! I now know why the way you get treated is a total joke! I refuse to help them out now with anything! Sorry for the rant! Just totally fed up to be honest!

That treatment is shocking. However...You shouldn't have done a walk that you haven't had training on, and you certainly shouldn't have took your own car on a 40+ miles round trip.

You need to have a chat with your DOM, and explain that you need adequate notice of shift changes, days off etc, (I'm sure they have to give you 7 days notice). Tell him you have no problem doing a walk that you have been trained for whether it's 2 or 200 miles away, as long as he gets you there and most importantly, back on time.

You have to be firm or you will be walked all over.

The flexibility agreement states that resourcing should be done 2 weeks in advance (that includes the rota so ppl know their days off etc). What is happening
to you is a disgrace. Ask your dom for a grievance form (which he wont give you). BUT it should put the wind up him enough to start treating you fairly. If it doesnt then follow it up and put one in.

Just got back from working in the mail centre! ha ha! Like a totally different world finish on time and all the managers are sound! There was also a fairly good looking girl which is unusual for my office! ha ha! Forgot to mention that one time when they sent me down to the walk which is miles away, I got there walked into the post office to find all 3 of the postman/woman prepping there rounds, you guessed it there was no need for me to be there! All 3 rounds were covered! Had to travel the 20 miles back! Get back to the office and theres nothing for me to do and they won't train me on a new walk because im only on a 20 hr contract so they send me home! ha ha! I have to laugh! Did actually consider just going straight home and not bother telling them! But im too honest for my own good sometimes! Honestly unbelieveable where do they get these people from!

Cheers for the advice on here! My problem was that when I first started I did everything for them and as a result they expected it all the time and walked all over me! Ha ha! Not any more! If your new, listen to your fellow posties in your office and don't believe everything the dom tells you as it's usually a load of b######s and by the way my doms a woman! Probably get a call at 6:30am tommorow asking me if I can come in because someones sick! They should'nt bother!

treff if you cut off at 2:15 everyday when you cant complete in time they will soon start making life easier for you by getting your walks prepped and by giving you easy rounds, if you let them treat you like a mug they will do it all the more. Seems you have started to see this for yourself
