What's the difference and how will it impact on the stages procedure?

Its a get out Royal Mail use as an Incident does not have a point of blame, where an Accident suggests that someone is to blame, therefore an Incident can be used in any stage warnings

So it counts as an absence even though you were at work?

Always a tricky one....
Managements take on this is that an AOD must involve an unsafe act.
So if you lift an overweight bag and hurt your back it's an accident at work but if you just lift a normal bag and hurt your back it's an incident.
Perhaps this is one for Brothermagrew? :hmmmm

Report it to the DWP, they'll write back saying whether it's classed as an Industrial Injury. It's always handy to have that in writing if you face an RTU.

I always thought an Accident was an unfortunate occurrence that happens unexpectedly and unintentionally, that happens by chance or without apparent cause.

Where as an incident is an accident where full blame can be apportioned, as in, as someone else suggested, not following guidelines, H&S instructions, SSOW, or even a deliberate act by someone.

It was an accident but as no blame can be apportioned it is classed as an incident, which can count towards an absence.

DWP Industrial Injuries: 0845 758 5433. Ring them and tell them you just want to register the injury, they'll send you a form, also your local job centre should have the forms.

Indeed it can Storm but you should be warned previously that any more AODs may be taken into account.

if you don't mind me saying, how on gods green earth can no time off count against someone regarding the attendance stage warnings :left: if someone has time off due to an incident this may then be used against them because there was no point of blame therefore the incident could have been avoidable. sorry if i didn't make myself clearer earlier :arrrghhh

this is true however it will be discounted if Royal Mail have been negligent and therefore were to blame for your accident which has been proven in a court of law

So if I win my claim against RM for my AOD will my record be clear, even though I had a Stage 3 for AOD?. DWP said it was an Industrial Accident.

if your claim is successful then well done :Applause however any cases against you regarding time off due to any accidents while on duty you were deemed not blameworthy for are therefore discounted
